PTL Highlights...

can someone who watched the game last night compare gesell to BC last year? is it an instant upgrade?

Gesell is a facilitator first. Always moving forward trying to make something happen. He is always, always moving the ball. He can get into the lane too, but is pretty small. Much better shot than Bryce.

even if Woody got 2 points big deal. Sounds like he was double teamed quite a bit and that opens someone else up. Still that would mean he is impacting the game. His shots will come.

If I recall correctly, AW's first PTL game last year was pretty bad. Threw up some airballs and didn't shoot it all that well. I think he turned out pretty good for us, though.

So for all the Negative Nancy, Sky-is-Falling, Debbie Downer posters ripping on a Top 100 kid in his first game action....please, I implore you, stop posting. You'll thank me this winter.

That is all.

Just for the record, there is only one poster in this thread who has ripped on Woody or any Hawks.

There is one in every crowd,ya know?

I am pleased with the reports I have read on the newcomers.
Woody battled with Cole and Melsahn, two grown men,and did not get discouraged, played smart, moved the ball, and helped his team win...which is all I ask from him next year.

Gesell played very well, and looked like he is going to fill that lone open slot in the starting lineup...he is the most important newcomer,by far.

Clemmons looked like he can fill his role...all good.
Meyer is gimpy,so we can hold judgement.
Uthoff looked rusty, but he has 17 months to shed that.

Devyn,Zach,Melsahn,Aaron,Gabe...the core of the team, all looked good.
The Hawks are going to soar again!!

2 frickin points in basically a pickup / summer league game? Cmon. After all the hype? Let's hope this was a case of opening nite jitters (if such a thing exists at the PTL level).

Why don`t you show us how you do it? Can you still bodyslam with best centers in B1G?

Bodyslamming soar!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for the link, Jugador.....

The video is better than the streaming last year, which was pitiful. Stiles does very good video and his writing is right on.....

There were not a lot of opportunities for Adam. He did not get the ball in good position often, but his poise and passing are very good.....

Gabe looked alright, quick down the floor, made a couple of shots that I saw, and I believe he had a very nice block on White.....

Liked what Mike G said about never playing in a Summer league like the PTL. He loves being here along with Uthoff and Woodbury.....

Just whets the appetite for next season. No worries about Woodbury as some have said there will not be as much double teaming during the season, if they do his passing will make them pay the price.....

White looked like he has already improved from last season, his confidence and poise are remarkable, plus he can score. He might be approaching unstoppable when he perfects his three.....

It's all bodyslamming good, as Atomic says so eloquently.....

:)

Good to hear he bounces pass , how many time in past did the guards ever bounces pass. Make me happy.:p
Bounce passes add up to fewer turnovers, Atomic, loved Mr. Davis's style. It almost seemed he would have the Lads roll the ball on the floor sometimes, the bounce passes were so low. Almost impossible to intercept. The best the opponent could do would be to kick the ball.....

Always good to see you happy, Atomic.....

:D

For any fan to be ripping a player based on their performance in a PTL game obviously has not watched any of the games. PTL is barely above playground and everybody knows guards dominate the league. Unless they can get up and down the court quick and play transition you will not get many looks in the PTL. The rare times they are able to set up a 1/2 court offense then you might see players like Meyer & Woody get a few looks.

White's performance is encouraging but I wonder who guarded him, Olaseni? It was also nice to see May perform well, he could be a huge piece for Iowa this season if he is healthy.

May will not be a huge piece of the puzzle, period! He may be a small role player at best but he is not a basketball mind. I admire him for his outstanding athletics, but he is 5 fouls to give and an occasional thunder dunk. He is a deer in the headlights with the ball in his hands.

Here's some stats from the first ptl game today.

Woodbury 10 points, 11 rebounds. Oglesby 20 points. Uthoff 12 points, 9 boards. McCabe 22 points, 10 rebounds.

Here's the stats from the 2nd game.

Marble 34 points on 12-of-19 shooting, Olaseni with 9 points, 5 rebounds.

Cole had 32 points, 11 rebounds. Gesell 14 points, 9 assists, 5 boards. Basabe 29 points, 14 rebounds. Meyer 4 points, Stokes 5 points.
