PTL Championship Game: Stories and Reactions

I see we have another thread up on the PTL Championship from people who watched it on TV. I thought I'd start another one just for links of coverage and reactions from people who were there.

Here's a good write up by Brendan Stiles giving some final thoughts on the PTL season. Scott Dochterman of the Gazette had a similar post up recapping the PTL.

Dochterman spoke to Matt Gatens, who was at the championship, about playing the NBA waiting game.

Here are photos from the championship game from Iowa City Patch.

Any thoughts from people who were there? I thought Clemmons had a very good second half against Gesell, although that was partly because Clemmons got defensive help against Gesell whereas Gesell's team did not help him out as much, IMO. If nothing else, I think Iowa definitely has two legitimate point guards to play with, which is a very good thing.

Even though Clemmons took it to him in the second half, overall Gesell still had a pretty good game, and I love how he always has his head up looking for other players.

Basabe was both the "good" Basabe (monster on the boards, inside scoring, explosive like he was a freshman) and the "bad" Basabe (whining at refs, sometimes a black hole for the ball). White very quietly had a great game. May was impressive for the second straight game, especially on the break.

lol at May dropping an s-bomb in the interview. That dunk he did was the most explosive i've seen him in a while. Clemmons came off as clutch and confident. His defensive skills are noticeable. Had no idea White is heading to Brazil to play with some pros. He never stops working...love it.

I love May, but I don't see him getting a lot of minutes (barring injuries to other players). There is just too much talent on the floor now.....

Eric May needs to do 3 things:
- Endlessly practice his 3 point shot
- Tirelessly practice his defense
- Persistently practice driving with his left hand.

Rinse and repeat...

That is what I say is his only chance to gaining significant minutes. Any thoughts?

Oh, and dare I say - stay healthy?

Totally agree. I always thought he needed to slow down as well. He even mentions working on that in the linked interview. With his athleticism and speed you'd think he'd be perfect for this system. He looks good in the PTL. If we can even get close to that from him this season, it'll add a whole new weapon.

Wouldn't mind a few more curse words during post game interviews though:D

He tried to catch himself but it was already out. It was when he explained the play where he dunked. something like "I saw nobody came up, so I was like s***, oh I mean shoot I'll just take it up"
