PSU schadenfreude

One thing I do know about the Kraft audio...

I've been in meetings with that sort of shit-hitting-the-fan importance before. Obviously not a college AD talking to players, but serious come to Jesus meetings with stuff on the line.

Those meetings are done with the understanding that the stuff said in them is sacred so to speak, and it's intended to be with everyone's trust in the room.

That leak was done with one purpose and that was to undermine and indict Pat Kraft. Someone (or multiple someones) hates his guts and wants him gone, like Bo Pelini's leaked tape. I'd bet money that Pat Kraft isn't going to let some mid level GA or staffer or anyone like that in the room. Regardless of whether he stays or not after this, there are moles in the program that are going to make things impossible for him.

My guess is that recording was done by a player who didn't like Franklin getting fired and wants Smith as the new head coach. Also guessing all of you heard the "We Want Smith" chants after his first win and the signs all the players were holding in front of the cameras that said "Hire This Man."

I freakin love this.

I'm gonna pretend you didn't just say that.

One cannot have friends who went to Iowa State.

Those are called "associates," or "acquaintances," or "colleagues."

Trust me, ISU fans hate us way worse than we hate them.

Yep.

Sizable portion of their fan base gets more enjoyment out of Iowa losing, than Iowa St. winning.

There is no way they can extend him an offer unless they know he will accept it. They cannot be left at the altar like that.

Holy shit, this might actually be happening!! Kiffin money?????
"Penn State Announces First $1 Billon Dollar Sports Contract"

"...as it signs Matt Campbell to historic 35 year deal."

"...as part of the agreement, PSU has reportedly convinced the governor of Pennsylvania to sign off on the sale of 26,520 acres of the Susquehannock State Forest in the Allegheny Mountains to Campbell and his family. Reports are that there are plans in the works for a $68 million dollar estate which would be accessed by a new two-lane highway leading directly from the State College airport. Per sources, the land purchased would be paid for by the university and the highway will be paid for by a 3 cent increase in the state's road use tax."

Seems reasonable. Opening offer. I would counter if I was Campbell.

If I was one of these coaches I would DEMAND a '70 DeVille convertible with gigantic horns, with no less than 25 lbs of studded diamonds on every surface that's not painted. I want the receipt that shows it's 25 lbs, too.

And yes, minus the diamonds that's Boss Hogg's car. Make it happen or I ain't signing.

Honestly, what would that cost the school, $200K? Child's play.

I'm blown away by this, really, I hated the good job MC did at ISU but I respected him. That respect is gone taking that garbage job at PSU.

The silver lining in this is it sends ISU football back to square 1.

What a lucky break for Penn State, one they really didn't deserve. But it's like Hayden Fry used to say, even a blind squirrel finds an acorn once in a while.

Can't argue that. And I think this is still a critical time.
I think there is still change coming to NCAA football.
Little changes like narrowing the portal window. This is the first year of a 'new playoff thingy', which I don't think will necessarily hold. If it does, we'll see other things like maybe conference championships. But the major change is still on the horizon. Or at least, philosophical changes that can lead to coaching changes.

Clearly an early hit to ISU. And potentially yet another potential disruption to Campbell when he inevitably can't turn PSU into an Alabama/OSU.

I'm pretty happy with another year of known stability with an opportunity for a stable handoff during these "unprecedented times".
