PSU schadenfreude

Do any of you find the PSU situation a bit delightful? After hearing the AD blaber on about their high standards he sounded like an puffed up arrogant a-hole.

As time has gone by and they havnt named their coach yet.

Someone said that Jimmy Sexton, who is Franklin's agent and the most influential agent in the sport is steering his clients away from PSU.

By the way BYU booster who is Crumbl Cookies CEO is said to step up and provide funding for theri coach / staff to keep him at BYU and it is said he sent a box of cookies to Kraft at PSU.

There aren't many schools I would take much delight in that situation but Penn St is definitely one of them with their history. Nebraska has proven that the model of "we're too good to only win 9-10 games so fire everyone" is a recipe for mediocrity unless your name is Alabama

He’s Matt Campbell agent too.

I don’t like James Franklin but he’s a damn good Big Ten coach and you don’t fire guys like that after a single bad season. Shit happens sometimes.

I can definitely see Franklin as a guy who’d pay his agent a million bucks to go nuclear, scorched earth crazy on Penn State behind the scenes. Like Better Call Saul level scheming.

Nate Bauer, a PSU insider for On3, says Matt Campbell is in the mix right now.
Be real funny if they paid him eleventy gazillion dollars in a 15 year contract and fired him after two seasons with an 11-14 record.

That'd leave PSU a worse dumpster fire and ISU a dumpster fire.

Consider me on the CMC for PSU hype train...

I though Campbell would only leave for Ohio State or Notre Dame? I love how all these names just keep getting thrown around. If I were Terry Smith I would just stop showing up and take a job before they are filled, it's obvious he is not a serious candidate or he would have been hired already.

I've heard something like that too. I think at this point, PSU will hire anyone. Kind of like when Nebby hired Bill Callahan. They thought everyone would want to coach there. They were wrong. Killed their program.

Depends on whether Campbell Soup wants generational money all in one shot and get fired after winning 20 games in 3 years, or whether he's content being 7-5 ad nauseum but having the ISU job locked down for the next 25 years.

I ain't mad about any of this.

People bitch about Iowa averaging 8 wins with a 10 win season sprinkled in here and there but no B1G titles, but I'll take stability any day of the week.

It's like we have a small, affordable lake home that's paid off with a nice little deck on the back. Nothing extravagant but still really nice. And each year we get to sit out there drinking coffee and watch the millionaire next door asshole neighbors' houses--upside down in three mortgages and under-insured--all flood or burn to the ground.

At least Iowa can rise up once-in-awhile to have a great season, knocking on the playoff door. This is because of the stability that you point out. Fans need to be VERY careful what they wish for. With the expanded playoffs, Iowa has an even better chance now than they did in the BCS system or 4 team c-ship games.

Very similar to the 1980's & 1990's, they can have special season every so many years. I'll take a team that every other team looks at as a competitive tough out. What more can you ask for a program like Iowa?
