Props To Shumpert

I am very hard on players until they prove it on the field. I was extremely disappointed that Don Shumpert was the number one receiver to start the year. He promptly came out to start the season and dropped multiple passes.

Then the demotion came which was the correct call and a good sign from the staff to make a change. Since coming back from the demotion he has not dropped a single pass. I almost posted this last week as I thought he had his best game ever by catching two difficult passes. Now today he had two more huge catches and HUGE fumble recovery by being alert.

I want to say great job and you proved something. Now you are a 'good story'.

I also want to point out the effect of challenging players to produce through playing time; awarding and reducing. This puts a premium on producing and making plays. We are seeing this now through Shumpert's play and possibly Canzeri who is seizing an opportunity and running with it.

Keep creating competition at all positions and guys will raise their level of play instead of 'entrenching' players.

Great job Don Shumpert!

Although I try to refrain from calling out players (particularly about his play early in the season), I agree with your assesment of Shump's play (especially lately). His two catches today both required tricky adjustments to get into position. And spot on regarding the fumble recovery.

I can't say I agree with the Canzeri and/or entrenchment comment; but good post about Shump.

as one who criticized Shumpert earlier, gotta give him props for a great game. Some nice catches and a big heads up play recovering Canzeri's fumble.

Way to go, Young man!

Thanks and I do not expect anyone to agree with me. That is part of a message board as it allows for all view points.

I am just a huge believer in challenging players through playing time and playing a lot of guys. There are risks to doing this but I feel the benefits far outweigh the risk. You put a premium on production which players understand, build depth and enhance your ability to recruit.

Great job Don Shumpert!

It couldn't have been said/written any better than that. Very proud of/happy for the kid. He has persevered and it has shown up the last couple few games. He's done a great job.

Agreed. It's nice seeing a player practice hard and work his way back. When asked about Canzeri, KF had mentioned he had been practicing hard and looks like it has paid off for others players as well. Ott is a beast. Has a great motor. I would love him morph into a Jared DeVries type.

He made the second catch waaaayyyyyy harder than it needed to be and was the reason it wasn't a TD.

He should have just adjusted and let the ball drop over his shoulder and caught the ball in front of him in stride. I used to make the same mistake as a freshman in High School.

New theory on shumpert throw him balls that are difficult to catch and he catches them...just don't give him the easy to catch balls.

but in reality he had a good game and the fact that he blocks well he is going to play some more...hopefully the wr blocks will matter with canzeri getting more carries as that would mean we have home run capabilities.

I will second this. I too have been hard on Shumpert. But he deserves credit for playing well the last two games Happy for him
