Proposed Rule Changes - Shorter Shot Clock

yeah, we should have no shot clock at all, that would also really speed the game up!

see, using dumb logic to the extremes is awesome!

What if bball were to adopt the penalty method used by ice hockey. Mainly if you commit a foul you go to the penalty box. If you are on defense and commit a reach in foul before the half court line you get 3 minutes minimum in the penalty box. If you foul the shooter you get two minutes and they get the free throws. I guess what I am saying is right now there is not enough of a penalty for fouls created by aggressive (same as physical) play. If you create a bigger disincentive for fouling it just might change the way coaches are teaching the game.

Can you imagine three players in the penalty box at one time? It could happen under such a system.

That's an interesting idea.

What about lowering the fouls per player to 4 or even 3 fouls per player?

I would also add that big men do not know how to play with their back to the basket, it is a lost art. Too many big men think they are 3(s) and just want to hang out on the perimeter.

Shaq was dominant in the NBA right up until his body started failing. Kareem, with his SkyHook, was unstoppable even in his late 30s. The reason Jordan scored a lot of his points is that he had an excellent post game. Today, aside from Tim Duncan, who actually has a good skill set with the back-to-basket game and demonstrates that night in and night out?

I'm in favor of a shorter shot clock. I don't see any reason why a team shouldn't be able to get a shot in 30 seconds. No reason to give a team an advantage by shortening the game by holding on to the ball.

EDIT: Iowa High School basketball needs to add a shot clock!!

What's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander! NCAA women have had a 30 second shot clock for at least 40 years. Why not the NCAA men?

If they are going to change, how about change like the old ABA did? A player could not be disqualified for fouls. However, when a player reached six fouls (5 fouls in college) and subsequently fouled his opponent, the opponent would shoot the free throws AND take the ball out on the sideline. No one ever fouls out, but it's crazy to leave players in after they've committed their "disqualifying" number of fouls.

Z-Bo, David Lee, LeBron, Kobe, and Carmelo, just to name a few.

What about a Defensive 3 sec penalty like the NBA to help open things up?

I would like to see a 30 second shot and this rule to help the college game.

The 1969-70 U of I men’s team averaged over 100 ppg while going undefeated in conference play (14-0). Purdue’s Rick Mount put up 61 in a losing effort (108-107)! The Hawks were knocked out of the NCAA tournament by Jacksonville (103-104) by the infamous last second tip-in by Pembroke Burrows III.

The most recent number I can find for D1 average scoring this year is 67.1 ppg. We now have a shot clock clock and and a 3 point line.

Shorter shot clock? Maybe but I'm with those calling for more defensive fouls and possibly looking at 4 fouls for disqualification.

Anyone know if any of the film from the '69-'70 season is out there on the internet somewhere? I can't locate it - thought it would be interesting on many levels...

The game of basketball has evolved into a physical game. No thanks on going back to the 60s 70s where a touch was a foul.

This is clearly a racist move, which will make it harder for athletically disadvantaged kids to access a college scholarship. I'm going to pull a John Thompson circa 1989 and walk off the court immediately after tip-off.
