Yes, Cole is having issues with his foot. And, of course, Gatens is out.
So the lineup is a bit small for sure.

Iowa could also be without senior center Jarryd Cole, who has plantar fasciitis in his left foot.
“It’s getting better,’’ Cole said Wednesday.
McCaffery said a decision on Cole’s availability will be made after he attempts to practice today and Friday.

There's more info in the presser that Jon has posted here in the forums and on the front page, as well.
Because he's not starting. Remember, he's a frosh and there are already 2 starting.

I, too, was surprised Devyn isn't starting. I had him pegged at 2 guard.
They are definitely trying something different with two PGs starting.
Again, this is just an exhibition. If Gatens isn't back, I'm wondering if Dev finds a way in. McCabe is getting the nod because McCaffery likes his consistency.
We'll see. It's not necessarily who starts, but who finishes.

Sounds like Zach has been a very steady player so far and might even start when Cole and Gatens come back....for Melsahn?
Fran needs some good luck here to get thru this difficult first year,and so far, it has not happened. Our two most vet players already down with injury..this could get real ugly in a hurry if anymore go down.

Okay. There were a couple of articles in the last couple of weeks that seemed to give the impression that Brommer and Archie had actually turned into players. This line-up seems to have cleared up that misunderstanding.
Actually, this line-up might be able to ring up some wins against non-conference low majors. When they get to major conference play it is going to be brutal. Gatens and Cole need to get well soon.
