Profit from NIT Game?

Does anyone know who profits from hosting an NIT game? I googled it, and couldn't find it. I was just wondering if Iowa was making a little extra coin by hosting these games.

That's kinda like asking who profits when someone is in a casino? The House or little old ladies pulling levers.

The NIT collects revenue from all sources... TV rights, radio rights, internet streaming rights, ancillary merchandise sales, etc... and distributes it to participating schools according to the number of games they play. Example... if the Hawks play three games they receive three times as much as South Dakota.

In addition, they like Iowa and teams like Iowa that fill most the arena. I think I heard most other NIT games were averaging around 5,000 some fans at the first game. Iowa had at least 12,000 some sold tickets to last nights game. I bet you there was another 1,000-1,500 walk ups. The only empty areas were the very top behind both baskets. Every other seat pretty much had an ass in it.

I thought it was great to see a big loud crowd. I doubt the money amounts to much compared to what BTN pays each school. But our freshmen and sophomores will definitely benefit. They get better and more confident with each game IMO.

I'm guessing Indiana wouldn't have passed on the opportunity to host a game if it would have been an opportunity to make $$$$.
