Presser Update Thread

So we lose to Isu again next year? Ridiculous

I'm much more worried about this guy than I am Iowa State-

No worries.

Kirk is just keeping expectations low. We always do better when expectations are low.

HOW LOW CAN WE GO?

And this is the attitude that KF taps into. 8 or 9 wins? As shown by Jon, we are one of the best programs in the nation when talking facilities and revenue and fans. We should averages 10 or 11 wins a season with a normal schedule. Im tired of the whole "Its Iowa, we cant recruit talent" B.S.
Get a coach that can recruit. And I bet you see better classes coming in. Get a coach that doesnt use an offense that Pop Warner would be in love with. Get a coach that will play the best talent regardless of year. Get a coach that will change his schemes to the talent he has.

Chicago Cub syndrome. It needs to change.

Here we go again. this is the stuff that cracks me up. No middle ground on HN, just extremes. We have a 7 win season with an easy schedule(not very good), I state that Minimum average expectations with a similar schedule should be 8-9 wins, but "OH NO, that's not enough, we should be winning 10+ games with a NORMAL schedule, and loser mentality like yours is what holding this program back"

"this is he attitude the KF taps into". I don't know what that means or what it has to do with anything. What I as a basic fan, deems reasonable for average success, means next to nothing.

We should Average 10-11 wins(80-90% win rate)?? really? why? cause we've done that like 5 times in the last 50+ years. With expectations like that, you're never going to be happy, ever.

but let's say your right.... how about we average 8-9 wins first, then we can "demand" 10-11 wins on average.

I didn't say one thing about "it's just Iowa". I absolutely think recruiting should be better than it is(I think we should be in the 25-40 area on the regular). But if you think we're ever going to consistently be a top 20 recruiter, regardless of our revenue rank, more power to you. Like it or not, even with some success, maintaining a top 20 class is unlikely.

Being realistic and "accepting mediocrity" are not the same thing.

and around we go...........

So in other words, nothing is really going to change schematically or with philosophy, either. Offense will continue to be a game manager, as well as recruiting being mediocre (can't expect to get good talent, right?).

"We probably wont be spread or run and shoot. We dont have access to certain players that some do..and I like to play defense."
You don't have access to them because you don't use them even when you have them. Seemingly don't even know how to use them.

Just not too long ago KF himself said it was his goal to play for championships.

Now it's not even about wins-losses? Now it's about "how we're playing".

And he says he's not tone deaf? That's tone deaf.
Saying you're not going to change after years of mediocrity is tone deaf. This press conference did not play well.

Here's the thing KF. It IS about wins-losses.

If you play well you win.
If you play well and don't win then you need more or better talent.
if you think football is just a coin flip each and every play then have Doyle work players' wrists and thumbs so they can be good at coin flipping. Don't practice the playbook. Practice on calling heads-or-tails.

I didn't expect him to do anything with his staff. I also didn't expect him to say that "we are just going to get better at not changing."

Big Ten Championship Game or bust in 2015. He should live by his own words or get vacated.

Dear Gary,

When you see that we aren't renewing our season tickets, when you see that Kinnick is empty (and not just the student section that you don't seem to care about) after we lose to a MAC team this fall (and we will), and you start to have conversations with BTN trying to convince them that we belong on TV despite ratings, and when the big donors (Carvers) start to donate a little less this year, just remember this big FU fans presser. That's football Gary (chomp, snort), that's football.

GROW A PAIR!

You settle for mediocrity. KF is definitely your man. Celebrate those 10 win seasons like you found a diamond in the rough.
Why should Iowa fans have high expectations? Shoot, we are only in the top 12 in football revenue, top 20 in athletic revenue, top 10 in fan support, top 20 in facilities.
And an athletic department that will pay top dollar to a coach.
But mid 50s in recruiting and mid 50s in winning %.

The math doesnt add up.

In 2005, Iowa had a top 10 ranked recruiting class. Did it turn out as hoped? No. But history tells me it can be done,

The fan base SHOULD have higher expectations. The fan base SHOULD demand 10-11 wins a year. What Iowa has to offer is something not many other schools can offer. And because of that, the fan base SHOULD demand a better product.

But, I think it is a small minority that believes Iowa should win 10-11 games a year. The rest are satisfied with 8-9. And that is where KF lives. Mediocre coach for a mediocre demanding fan base.

Go Hawks!

I don't want to hear anything from him at this point. Win games. The end.

Every time he speaks it hurts the football program. Tuesday pressers, post-game pressers, BTN & radio obligations will go on but honestly if Barta was smart he would block Ferentz from the media like Ferentz blocks FR from the media.

Yeah. Forget learning from the Packers. That's over his head. Can't learn advanced calculus until you can do basic addition and subtraction. Baby steps. He has a losing record against ISU. Maybe he should start by picking up some pointers from Paul Rhoads. He's not quite ready for a Harley but maybe they could take a cool picture of Ferentz in Front of Kinnick sitting on a moped. Send that to potential recruits. If a kid is trying to decide whether he should go to Iowa or Western Michigan, that might sway him in our direction.
