Press Release for Heroes Game

It's a noble concept I just thought that football games were about football. not sure what this what this has to do with Iowa-Nebraska meeting on the gridiron.

Well, I am sure that your local Hy-Vee has displays being put up at this very second, so you will understand how this is hyping...er, I mean how much this will honor heroes for the next 4 months.

Honestly, I don't know why any of you would be cynical about college football, a system whose integrity is second to none, doing something just to make money!

So many people live with negative attitudes. I cant believe this story has already caused so much negativity out of people here. Just amazing. I feel sorry for some of you that cant take positives away from things and always live in negativity.

They are going to do whatever it takes to make money anyways. At least this way they are choosing to recognize a couple honorable midwestern people along with it. If you or someone you know happened to be the person recognized I'm guessing it would take you all of about 1 second to change your tune. It's a cool idea. Are they trying to hype the game? Yes. Are they trying to make as much money as possible? Yes. Are they recognizing people who deserve to be recognized? Yes. Are they donating a lot of money to charity? Yes.

I'm not sure what you guys are complaining about. This is modern day college football. Get used to it. At least they are finding a way to create some good out of it.

My problem is that they could use every game to honor people and raise money for charity. However, they only feel like it is a good idea when they team up with a grocery store and use it to raise "awareness" for a new "tradition". They are absolutely exploiting altruism to improve their image and awareness. It is cynical and manipulative and I am surprised so many people are taking it at face value.

Bingo....why don't we honor an Iowan at every game?

Hy-Vee Heroes Game? Sounds like Hy-Vee came up with the idea for this thing. Lame.

Stock up on snacks for the Hy-Vee Heroes Game! Doritos only $1.99, Coke 12-packs 4 for $10. We are employee-owned, with a helpful hero in every aisle.

For the big game only we have hoagie buns on sale for the heroic price of just $2.99! ! !

Three words: Skoal Bowl.

The Heroes game is uncreative and haughty. They had a chance to give it a good name that people around the country could recognize. Now it's just another thing that old white people in the B1G screwed up.

Not gonna comment on if the whole promo is lame or not but I think its obvious who should be the first Iowan honored - Salvatore Giunta, recent Medal of Honor recipient from Hiawatha, IA. If the spirit of competition is incorporated into the heroes each year our Medal of Honor winner is gonna beat the pants off whoever they come up with. On Iowa!

This name is so damn cheesy and pretentious it hurts.

Am I the only one that thinks this whole thing is getting forced so hard it's losing it's luster?

sure, in july maybe. come talk to me in november and we will discuss how much "luster" it has

Probably about as much as a usual conference game in November. A college football rivalry has one important thing that this game will be missing and that is good old fashioned hatred. I have no reason to hate Nebraska at this point. Maybe a few years down the line I will, but at this point, no.
