Prepare Yourselves Now For Cancellation

Anyone who thinks the A-1 Roto-Rooter Bowl presented by Bill’s Taxidermy Shop held in Knucklespur, TX between the (6-6) Upper Northwest Poughkeepsie County University Mudhens and the (7-5) Central Kalamazoo Welding School Anklebiters means anything is kidding themselves.

You’re just mad because I said bowl games were for old fogeys and I get it, but the 70 and over crowd are the vast majority of the ones dropping $3K for a trip to Geezerville, FL every year.

A team should have to do something exceptional to make a bowl, not just be .500.
If the budget bowls meant something, more than 10 spectators would have gone to see Maryland and VT in the Pinstripe Bowl. The game is in one of the most populous metropolitan areas in the western hemisphere and nobody went.

Most of these bowls are like watching a high school game.

I love the bowl games and I hope they last forever. My kid is sending me pictures of he and his HMB buddies at Universal Studios, they are having a blast. THIS is who the reward is for, these kids bust their ass on the football field to entertain us (HMB and football players), let it be about them. The fans that take vacations and go to these games enjoy it too. Those of you that sit on your couch and criticize these games just turn off the TV, get off your ass and find something else to do (something other than coming on to here too bitch about them). These kids don't get paid for what they do, the band members don't even get scholarship money, going to a bowl game IS their reward.

I agree with what you have said here generally, but I wouldn't be against upping bowl eligibility to 7, 8, or 9 wins. Not happening, I know, but I'd be interested in a seeing some exploration into how many matchups/the quality of those matchups, etc. that we end up with, and with less bowl inflation, teams not going every year, I expect you'd get packed stadiums for them more often than not.

Obviously you haven't been watching some games played in the last 48 hours. The Purdue/Tennessee game was one of the best games of the entire season. The Sparty/Pitt game was completely unpredictable and stunning. Both games featured tons of emotions and excellent talent on the field. High school games my ass...watch those two games and tell me those games weren't played at a high level and that bowl games don't matter to the players. Even the Wisky/AZ State game last night featured a lot of chess moves by the coaches and was interesting in its own way.

You just kicked some serious ass with your post! The alumni pep band stepped up and played at the Iowa men’s basketball game Wednesday night. Cool!

Another ass kicking post!

Yeah they did, they were recruiting alumni in the HMB Facebook group I'm in. I thought they did awesome!

Props to the kids that do the pep band, all they get is a free ticket into the game as they are not sponsored by the athletic department. When they do a women/men doubleheader they have to stay the entire time and even pay for their own food.

I'll be the first to admit that there are far too many bowls but my guess is the players, dance team, cheerleaders, and marching band of Rutgers is having a blast even though they are taking one on the chin in the Gator Bowl. I'm sure all of the kids that went to Phoenix from Minnesota and WV had a blast along with all the other schools that went to bowl games.

Hell there is a small part of me that hopes Iowa only wins 8 games next year and winds up in the Music City Bowl as that's a game I can drive too in a decent amount of time (my son hates when I say that).

Having said this from a fan perspective there are a ton of bowl games that I didn't watch but someone must be watching as ESPN is making up bowl games to televise so all bowl eligible teams play. All the "(6-6) Upper Northwest Poughkeepsie County University Mudhens and the (7-5) Central Kalamazoo Welding School Anklebiters" bowl games I'm not watching, doesn't mean they shouldn't exist. Just because I don't enjoy them doesn't mean someone else doesn't.
