PREDICTION: Iowa v NIU: What to Expect from the Hawkeyes

There were a lot of problems last year offensively. The biggest HANDS DOWN is once again KF handcuffing the OC. KOK was used to it and knew what to call to avoid Kirk putting his hands in the cookie jar. Davis I guarantee was shocked by it and we saw the results. I honestly don't see how anyone could have not seen that was clear as day especially last year.

I agree with this. Whether Davis turns out to be a good hire or not, I don't count last year against him as I think last year's offense was a hodge podge of KF/KOK and Davis...and the result was like the love child in 'V'

I actually do think this is the case...I think he was lost because he was in a sea of lost receivers.

You don't go from one of the three best seasons ever by an Iowa QB, 25 TD passes and fewer than 10 INT, to last year, without something huge happening....new offense and a receiver coach who is more lost than the players, those are the answers IMO

fixed it for you. i think a lot of the problem was soup didn't understand the offense himself. he can't teach his players to do what they're supposed to do when he doesn't know himself

We will have to depend on Weisman and our running game tomorrow hopefully we can put together a little bit of a passing game. Our defense is really going to half plat a complete game tomorrow to escape with a win. This is a pretty good northern Ill team

For the record I don't care about (legally) shooting a bear. I also don't think it's impressive. Unless said bear was trying to kill you.

I will add that 99pct chance Iowa does not impress anyone tomorrow -win or lose. That's the way they roll 1st game.

I did a spit take.

Thanks for my new avatar, Jon.

I do blame Vandenbearkiller, at least to the extent that he should have realized he was in over his head. How do you not blame a guy who fails to learn how to exploit the blitz? How do you not blame a QB who locks onto receivers like a pit bull locks on to an unwitting pedestrian? The Bear Slayer knew where he was going to throw the ball before the huddle broke, and he was throwing it that way come hell or high water. Or taking the sack. Whichever came first. It was like Northwestern v. Iowa circa 2009 on a loop.

Let's just admit the obvious: Our QB was atrocious last season. He made Jake Snake-Burner Christensen look like John Elway. You can plug any one of our pure rookie QBs in there and it's an instant upgrade. I know I haven't seen any of them play, but I don't need to see any of them play to have @ 98% certainty in that regard.

Look, we get it. You liked Vandensacked as a person. That's fine. But the stats don't lie, and he was the one creating said stats. Sure, his receivers weren't all that, but there were a lot of open receivers that The Slayer never even glanced at. Blaming Greg Davis for that is like blaming the basket for a guy missing free throws. Accountability matters. Let's assign responsibility where it belongs and not ignore the bear err elephant in the room.

Too bad you weren't as adept at hitting wide open receivers.

Like the pit bull reference. #wasteland

here is what I don't wish to see anymore of. Iowa is behind in the 4th quarter. Only after the fact does it look good.

A young Iowa defense struggles to contain Lynch; the uncertainty created by a failed offensive coordinator attempting to mesh his strategies and techniques with a stubborn, passive aggressive head coach, and the true youthfulness of the three top signal-callers continues: NIU 24, Iowa 13.

The only thing hotter than the Kinnick Stadium turf will be the post-game calls for Ferentz to be fired.

I have one thing to say about this game. Size matters. The key is our offensive line and their ability to push NIU around to the point where we can run at will and they have to load up to stop the run. I think Rudock is accurate enough to make them pay. If that happens...Lynch will have 7-8 opportunities to score in the game. I don't think he will be able to get in a good flow, and we win this 28-17 or in that neighborhood.

It seemed to me he was best suited for the no huddle. Give him too much time to think and he panics. We had this discussion before on here, and most took issue with the idea of running the no huddle more than once a game with him. You coach to your players' strengths.

Agreed

Time to move on LawVHawk get out of 2012 enter 2013 please. First off we are NOT young on D as a matter of fact they should be vastly improved from last year unless Phil Parker is a pretender (and I think he could be). The fact that they've been spending a MAJORITY of their time in no huddle suggests something is up offensively. Now do they have any play makers this year....yes Damon Powell and Tevaun Smith can be those....we don't have to rely on a failed Shumpert experiment this year.

We were ten points away from being an 8-4 team last year so I am cautiously optimistic this year. We win this one 27-21 and I think we go 8-4 this year as the breaks start turning in our favor. They have to, don't they?

I can't predict the score but I'll predict a win because I forgot to DVR the game before I left for Iowa City. That always seems to work.
