Potential options for open scholarships

Okay now that we have freed up 2 scholarships over the last few days, what are everyone's opinion on what we do here. Clearly Baer will get one of them but what do we do with the other?

One option would be a transfer PG that would be ready to play next year. So far Christian Vital was a name that was mentioned however I did not see many guards in the graduate transfer list.

The other option is to hold the scholarship and add to the 2016 class, which currently only has Connor. Does anyone have any idea on what targets we have for 2017? I know F Malik Williams was a top 50 guy from Indiana, but I consider that a long shot at this point. I don't think we have any glaring position needs so we could go after the best player available. The Dale Jones situation also comes into play here.

Crazy offseason so far, what say you?

If we get a grad transfer pg, would that tick off Williams or Bohannon?

Neither of these guys had Power 5 offers. I'm sure neither expected to be the starting point as a sophomore or freshman. They will be fine, and there would still be minutes available.

I agree, in a perfect world we would pick up a graduate transfer PG, but to be honest I just really didn't see that many out there.

Do we have any other options for the 2017 class?

1. Grad transfer point guard.

2. A pure five. Wagner undersized at 6-7, Kriener a ways away.

Baer does not get a scholarship this year.

Tell me where you find an unsigned big man who would be able to play and contribute right away at this time of year. They don't exist.

I think we need a big man more... We will be way under sized at the 5 spot now. If Wagnor/Cook are going to be the 4/5 guys what a different look that'll be. Sure would be nice to get a 6'10 guy that can at least defend and rebound. I think between Williams Bohannon, Moss, Jok that we'll have enough ball handlers and that having a pg won't be the biggest deal. I think Williams will be pretty darn good and even if he turns it over more then MG this year he'll make up for it with his D and shot making. (can't be worse at hitting Js then MG)

TS. If they want the starting spot, earn it. Otherwise, there are minutes to be had. Ask Sapp.

And Clemmons proved that having 1 bad year doesn't define your career. He owned it and earned his way back into the rotation and ultimately became a starter again. Some guys just feel entitled or lack confidence or aren't good enough or some mixture of the 3 IMO.

1 - PG...might find one

2 - 5...not going to happen

Baer...absolutely 100% gets a scholarship

We are NOT way undersized at the 5, or in the front court. Look around, here are the final 4 teams Bigs/leading rebounders

UNC - Johnson 6'9 Meeks 6'9 Hicks 6'8
Syracuse - Roberson 6'8 Lydon 6'8 Coleman 6'9
Nova - Ochefu 6-11 Hart 6'5 Reynolds 6'8
Oklahoma - Spangler 6'8 Lattin 6'9 Hield/Cousins 6'4

I'm not sure why people still think we need 6'10/6'11 guys lumbering around the court. I'm all for getting them if they can run the court and shoot, but they are few and far between. Uhl 6'9 Cook 6'9 Kreiner 6-10 Pemsl 6-8 and Wagner at 6'7 is more than adequate in the front court. This is what Fran wants....athletes that can run the court, shoot and rebound.

OMG - I get a good laffy when I hear we are undersized.

By the way, geniuses, who's going to guard Williams next year? A 6'5 PG with a 7' wingspan?

A big strong 6'8 guy is probably better off than a 6'10 skinny guy. Especially if the shorter guy has long arms like Cook.
