Post-ISU silver lining thread

  1. Our record could be/should be 0-2. Yet we are sitting at 1-1.
  2. I'm determined if we continue to run routes and throw to the guy several yards short of the first down mark on 3rd down, we will break it and actually get the first down.................someday.
Thinkin positive!

The beers were cold, food was great, tailgating was fun. The weather was great and the stadium looked full of mostly black and gold. We didn't lose by more. I got out of Iowa City before most and was back in Des Moines before most of my buddies had gotten to the interstate due to traffic.

I loved the swing passes and wheel routes to the RB, and if Bullock hadn't dropped a couple of them, this might have really opened things up upfield.

Meyer looks very solid and confident out there, Kornbrath hasn't shanked any punts, and we haven't given up any big returns.

No lost fumbles for the 2nd straight game.

VDB seemed more confident this game than last, and put most balls in a catchable spot. I don't recall more than 1-2 sacks--another big positive.

When working, I could sense Davis' offense getting into a rhythm that will be tough to defense in future games--given the screens and wheel routes and so on, we're creating more uncertainty for defenses. I wish we had run out of the shotgun a time or two, but I think that will come with time.

I don't believe we gave up any sacks. Unless you count the dropped snap that he had to cover.

POSITIVES:

- Correctable mistakes. I know it's old and tired, but it's true.

- JVB swing pass to Bullock was impressive, nice touch.

- James Morris played one of his best games. Took much better angles. Made a great read and huge interception at a big time. He even shed a block during the game.

- Punting and kicking have been very good.

- Really impressed with certain areas of the defense. They aren't dominating, but they learn from their mistakes. Phil Parker seems to make pretty good in-game adjustments.

- CJF broke a tackle on a play.

- Defense is getting turnovers.

I think Phil Parker is a good coach. ISU looked good on the first 3 possessions on offense, and proceeded to do almost nothing the rest of the game, even with unbelievable field position in the second half.

In fact, ISU had 207 yards and 9 points in the first 3 possessions - finished with 342 yards. In the following 10 possessions, ISU only had 129 yards, no points, 5 3-and-outs, and no drives longer than 42 yards.

I think that shows excellence making adjustments.

You're not supposed to be cheering us up. You're supposed to be rubbing in Kirk's 6-8 record against ISU and how ISU beat the Hoks in Kinnick for the first time in 10 years.

no sacks (i think)

penalties were kept to a minimum

i actually think JVB looked a little better, yes he still made mistakes, but I think a little better - especially in the 2nd half (I actually don't hate the last throw - great play by a stud LB - 3 inches more air and we are 1st and 10 on their 35) and we

Oline was great in run blocking the 1st game, and much better pass blocking against ISU. If they continue to gel and improve could still be a strength.

we threw vertical more this game (the drops minimized the improvement we would have seen)

we have stayed relatively healthy in our weakest dept spots (crucial for any success this year)

We are young everywhere, have to believe we will continue to see improvement.

We're not ISU fans...

Cant argue this. I'm a typical Tavern Hawk by their terms. Never went to Iowa. Attended a few classes at ISU but in the end got my degree from William Penn. I would never cheer for ISU. Iowa could have a scandal the likes humankind has never seen and I wouldn't switch to the clones. Their fanbase is unbearable, even when we win the CyHawk game. And to be honest, I really wish the worst for their team, their coaches, and their fans. End rant.
