Not tracking this...

Not sure if what you are not tracking is the fact that Rastetter's grandfather is rich and former head of Iowa Board of Regents and big donor to Iowa sports.

I am not going so far as to say this is why Colten is the starting punter but just based on stats and results he is a below avg punter.

After this season's results if he is the punter again I hope they give up on the rugby punt unless he can get more height on it and at least about 35 yards of distance. These very low short rugby punts are terrible.

Actually I think he is almost up to average with regular punts and if he could average 38 or so yards per regular punt with enough hang time to not allow many returns I would be ok with that. haha he certainly doesnt outkick his coverage.

I think it is better with the punter to know what result you are going to get. If you get decent steady results then that is ok.

Yes, I am not aware of the name, nor do I know any rich people from Iowa who are on the board.

Since some of the most selective universities in the country allow for a healthy acceptance of "legacy applicants" (kids from rich families of donors and former graduates who don't have good grades and won't get in without special treatment because of mommy and daddy's cash pile) I would guess that special favors exist in the sports departments too. Of course, this policy is difficult for those who have the best of grades, yet aren't accepted because legacy applicants and all the list of "victim/persecuted/minority" applicants take a very large amount of the slots available.

I guess the message to better Iowa punters who won't see the field is, life isn't fair. And the message to those who probably are deserving but won't get accepted to the most selective universities would be, "life isn't fair, at least to you but it is more than fair to others, who aren't you"

That said, that one 12 yard punt, fielded about 5 feet off the ground by MSU in the bowl game was cool.

And Reggie Roby was fun to watch, saw him warm up in Madison years ago. Wow.

I've noticed whenever anyone shares their opinion on a position they are worried about the immediate follow-up is: "That's not the position I'm worried about, I'm worried about the ____________________ position."

So, let's find out where our collective fears are.

My biggest concern is guard play. To improve the running game with the current backs, Iowa needs mauling, nasty guards. I think Linderbaum and the tackles will be major strengths, but Iowa seems to struggle with the run when just average at the guard spots. I’d love to see Banwart and the twins really get their piss hot this year.

And punter. My question isn’t why can’t Iowa recruit great punters. It’s with the way Kirk values and depends on punting, why aren’t great punters begging to come to Iowa? I don’t get it.

I should be concerned with DL depth, but Phil Parker kinda erases that.

My biggest concern, offensive line, was not listed for some reason. If we couldn't run the ball this last season, and are losing 2.5 starters, then ruh roh...

The 8 man rotation on d was critical. I know we have some good ones but we need 2-3 more to rotate and handle any small injuries next year. If we don’t see this and our o struggles at all in games this group will get tired quickly and become much less effective

Oline should definitely be listed. This years Oline I don’t think can be considered anything other than average given the way we ran the ball. We lose 2.5 starters.

I went with Runningback even though I’m sure that won’t be a popular pick. We know the players but what I don’t think we know is if they are any good. We also don’t know if the coaches are going to properly utilize them. Part of me hopes Goodson is so good he comes in and gets instant play time, but given that we return three guys that played that seems unlikely.

What's the point of such a poll without including "offensive line" or even more specifically "center".

As the offensive line goes, so IOWA football goes.

This and Stanley. Kirk's not going to bench him so we're at his mercy.

I hear y'all, but you're all wrong. Have you forgotten we have an O-line guru named Kirk Ferentz? And the greatest developer of talent in history named Doyle?

Maybe it's Polasek you're worried about. Or maybe the RBs or WRs. But your MOST pressing concern is not the O-line next year.

There's a difference between saying the O-line is what matters at Iowa and the O-line is the thing that is the most worrisome in 2019

We're losing Reynolds and Render, sorry but the guys behind them ARE BETTER.
Linderbaum Army All-American
Kallenberger 4-star ESPN 300
Paulsens Mennonite Gods

Plus, the 3 starters returning will all be juniors. Translation: they'll be better.

Again, what you guys are really having trouble with is that Polasek should be the OC and Brian should be the O-line coach. He did win the Joe Moore award and Polasek beat many superior teams when he was OC at FCS-University.

Oh, and one more thing. The template only allows for 10 categories and I wasn't leaving coach off the list.

Was that punt in the Outback Bowl a "blocked" punt, or just (as someone said) a "punt-erception"?

Didn't know he was a senior. That could be a problem. I know they were moving someone else into the center position. But I thought Render had another year.

With the OC having been a starting center you would think he would be able to provide some pretty good tips and tricks for the spot. When you think about it we have probably had a better string of centers under KF than at any other position. Just not a spot of glory and fame.
