The Hawkeyes just missed the NCAA Tournament. Would it be better for a young team to make a run in the NIT or have a short stay in the Big Dance? Please vote!

If the question is, what's best for the players, it would be making a long run in the NIT because of all the extra practices and games, plus the momentum you might pick up if you make it to MSG. For fans, I think it's best to do a one and done in the NCAAs because you want so bad for your team gain the status of a Big Dance bid.

As a fan I love watching them win and hate watching them lose. But the anticipation build up before the tournament is exciting as hell. I'm trying to decide if it was more fun to be excited leading up to the Tennessee game, then watching a loss, or watching the last NIT run. It's hard to match watching 4 straight wins in a tournament setting and the excitement of being one of the last teams in the country that is still playing through March. On the other hand, come next year, saying we've been to 4 straight tournaments would be awesome. I've decided I have no idea.

NCAA each and every time. Teams/players aren't going to get better in games 30-34 more so than if they just played 31. All gains from this year to next year will be realized in the off season. So no, it is never better to go to the NIT.

Tough call but short answer for me would be to learn to win outside of their home court environment as that's where most contenders separate themselves from the pretenders. Also give them a taste of some of the vibe that surrounds being in the Big Dance so it's not a total stranger in the future.

I'm not sure more playing time is a big deal with this team at this time..........not like we're replacing a senior heavy lineup and need to give the youngsters some exposure.

I feel if they can win the NIT this will give them a tremendous boost going into next year. They were oh so close to the NCAA, damn near pulled it off, so this team is heading in the right direction, next year look out. Winning the NIT would be a wonderful thing right now. I hope they can go far and do it.

One possible advantage for the NIT (no, it's not better) is if Iowa makes it to MSG. Next year's Big 10 Tournament is also at MSG. :)

It's always better to go to NCAA.

It is going to be one or the other, no matter which one would prefer. So perhaps one should go with what is offered. The Hawks could always politely decline the invitation to either post season tournament if they feel that the fans would not be pleased.....

This season, despite the glamour of playing in the Dance, I personally believe that the NIT is the best bet for the team. After the BTT loss to Indiana, a first round loss, play in or otherwise would not necessarily be all that positive for the extremely young team. Although it would be worthy statement making the Dance, all things considered. Actually they would be in the Dance with a well-earned victory at Minnesota......

The NIT provides an opportunity to have three home games at Carver, and also an opportunity to play in the Garden for the semifinals and Championship game. To advance in the NIT would be valuable experience for this very young team that has exceeded even the most positive preseason expectations. That would, best case scenario, give the team 5 games in the alternative post season tournament. Would be extremely valuable experience for next season in the Big Tournament and afterwards.....

Of course a win in the first game is somewhat essential for the progress of the Hawks. It is a well-deserved accomplishment to be invited to the NIT, especially a first seed. This a reward for the hard work and accomplishment these Lads have displayed this season. Something to be proud of, all things considered.....

The Hawks can shine in the NIT.....

You shouldn't have to ask. Look at recruiting the year or two after the NIT run .. i.e. this years juniors and seniors. There isn't much there.

Now look at the recruiting after NCAA appearances. A lot of young talent.

Coincidence? I think not.

Just my $.02 .. .. GO HAWKS!!!

I've had a change in thinking on this. I used to believe that the extra practices of the NIT were going to help a team the most. JDM changed my mind on this one.

I'd rather have this team go to the Big Dance even if it's for a one and done. That way they get a taste of it and next season when they DEFINITELY make it, they aren't all starry eyed. They are there to take care of business.

So excited for the future of this team!!

Ditto.....never bought all the "extra practices" bull shit. Look at what all the extra practices do for us in Bowl Games...not a damn thing....we get drilled.

The reason it is always better to make the NCAA is because there is no way to know for sure that you will lose the first game.

NCAA by a mile, who is voting for the NIT? Let me guess it is the people who think that those 15 extra bowl practices are sooooo awesome.

Unless I'm mistaken the BTT is a week earlier than other conference tournaments next year. Big East has MSG booked for week everyone else plays their tournaments.

If so are B1G teams going to take nearly two weeks off between the BTT and NCAA.

I'll give Delaney credit, he's making the conference a ton of money but this is a move that could come back to haunt the B1G

Tough call but I just think it's better for the team and program to be in the dance. Players will have been to the dance and get a feel for the experience of what it's like.

And let's be honest.. Top recruits probably aren't watching Iowa in the NIT, either. I'm betting they're watching NCAA games.

So NCAA for me.

Win NIT vs. one and done in dance, sure, gimme the championship . Hanging a banner always good. Anything less than NIT champion, gimme the 1 and done in the dance. "A run" in the NIT only matters if it ends with a championship .
