Poll: Better for Young Hawkeyes - NIT Run or NCAA 1-and-Done? Please vote!

Unless I'm mistaken the BTT is a week earlier than other conference tournaments next year. Big East has MSG booked for week everyone else plays their tournaments.

If so are B1G teams going to take nearly two weeks off between the BTT and NCAA.

I'll give Delaney credit, he's making the conference a ton of money but this is a move that could come back to haunt the B1G

MSG? Ugh. I get that it's a huge building and will bring in a lot of money, but Indianapolis, Columbus, or Chicago would be far more centralized. Given Iowa's success in the BTT under Fran I can't see many Iowa fans making that trek.

I can't believe this is even in question. A one and done is way better for the players and the program than a long NIT run. The only way the NIT might be better is if you win it, hardware does look good in the trophy case. Otherwise the only thing the NIT is better than is sitting at home.

Hanging NIT banners in CHA is an embarrassment.

I've heard at one time it was a prestigious tournament. It isn't now --

especially if there is a tournament with the same name preceded by "pre-season"

I wouldn't be embarrassed if they won. The team they beat tonight had a lot of fight in them. I thought Iowa played pretty good, but they were a little sloppy.

Hang an NIT banner today.....hang an NCAA banner tomorrow.

It's all about experience. Too bad they haven't learned to do it in the BTT yet.

Yeah the banners I don't get. Winning the NIT is one thing, perhaps you raise a banner for that but not for participation. I would like to see Iowa stop doing that.

Always much more exciting to play with the best of the best instead of just playing with the rest. Having said that let's take this show all the way to the garden.

NCAA each and every time. Teams/players aren't going to get better in games 30-34 more so than if they just played 31. All gains from this year to next year will be realized in the off season. So no, it is never better to go to the NIT.

Dean, I usually agree with your takes but not this time. A long run in the NIT compared to a one and done in the NCAA means 1-4 more games and 12-15 more practices. A player can learn, improve or perfect a skill with that many more times on a basketball court in real or simulated action.

As I said though, as a fan, I'd still prefer one and done in the NCAA.

I'd be embarrassed to hang a CBI/CIT banner in the rafter but not an NIT one. Say we beat TCU, Syracuse or other Power 5 schools. That's an OK thing imo. Wouldn't be overly proud of it but not embarrassed either.

Well if you usually agree with me, you are right a lot then. You are wrong on this one. :)

Just kidding of course. I understand what you are saying here, but I really think the confidence the team would have gained from making a miracle run to get into the NCAA would have built the team up more than any additional practices could. It isn't like Fran is running then hard in practice this time of year.
