Polasek & Copeland Hirings Made Official

I rag on the coaches just as much as everybody else does on this website. I can't help but notice the coaches that have been hired in the last 24 hours they are not your typical Ferentz type guys. O'Keefe is a Ferentz guy but these two coaches that have been brought on look and smell a whole lot different than the direction we have been headed in the recent years. I'm going to assume Brian has everything to do with these two hires and I like what it looks like at least early on.

You would be correct about these being "Brian's guys". I have been trying to tell people on here for years now that the only way to get the old man to change on offense was to put Brian in at OC. I have posts that go way back making this case, and of course da haters would come at me. Yet, like always I am right and da haters are just to busy doing da hating to have any kind of real vision on things. Brian is going to put HIS STAMP on this offense, and it starts with brining in his guys.

From the way NDSU confused the hell out of us in the running game, and then smashmouthed us in the fourth quarter, I'd say Brian liked what he saw. The did some really interesting things with their lead backs/guards that had our linebackers chasing the blocker as opposed to the ball. Very impressive stuff. Adding a few wrinkles to our blocking schemes just makes it that much more difficult to prepare for. I like the hires.

NIU has to hate us so much. We flipped at least two of their commits late, and now we've taken one of their coaches. Lol

We have no evidence that these are "Brian's guys". We are projecting our hopes on to these hires. I will say it's nice to not have hired some 85 year old guy out of retirement, or someone from Luther College. Though I will say the Jim Reid hire was very good for our LBs

I want to see the results, on and off the field. I want to see the Iowa offense adapt to teams and not just run the same stuff every Saturday.

Maybe KF is loosening his grip on the offense, or maybe we'll see the same exact thing as we always have.

I do know that with having new coaches on the staff, and potentially a "new" offense, that does give KF slack for having an off year in 2017. Our schedule is much harder, so expectations will be lower. Though that does tend to lead to our best years.

I want to see:

OL that can pass block and pick up blitz
WR that can catch the damn ball
QB that actually throws to more than 1 WR
Attack the middle of the field
Attack the defense even when up 14 points
Scratch where it itches
Play loose

Could you give me the Powerball numbers please?

Unfortunately Iowa is the team that is usually confused on offense no less.

Like I noted above I think this is a step in the right direction. Good job Hawks

I certainly hope so. I am tired of paying high cable bills here in the south land (SEC country) just to watch a weak lame ass offense game after game. No one likes to lose but watching a Lickliter type of offense on the grid iron is just about all I can take.

I hope now that I am moving to the Salt Lake City, Utah area that I can still get the BTN out there and not have to see "ROLL TIDE" tea shirts every where I go. "ROLL BYU????" LMAO!!!!!!

If Brian rolls out the same ole offense this upcoming season I hate to say what is going to happen to my satellite dish. :eek:

So while I like the fact that we brought in outside blood for the 2 new coaching spots, I gotta say that I think we missed out on one of our top choices. Blazek was the top choice at OL and would have been a home run hire, even though he was an "Iowa guy". There are plenty of good coaches out there though, and getting TP seems like a good hire as well.
Either way I am excited by the hires for Iowa, and am looking forward to what they can do for the program.

So KOK = QB
Copeland = WR
Polasek = OL

Who is coaching RB and special teams?

Brian will be RB coach.

Right now Wallace does some Special teams, but I'm sure Copeland will also work with some of the specialist as well, since White did that too.

Is Brian to RB and Polasek to OL reflective of the fact that RB is a less demanding position to coach (easier to balance with OC duties), or reflective of the fact that they are looking to change philosophies along the OL?

OL is REALLY important to Iowa and it's head coach. KF said that it would be pretty hard to coach the OL and be OC. If you think about it, this makes sense as with the OL I would guess you have 15-20 kids to coach between scholarship and walk ons. At RB you might have what 5-8 kids to coach total.

KF does a lot of coaching of the OTs as well. Brian has been the run-game coordinator so transition to RB coach will be seamless.

I don't think it would take Sherlock Holmes to detect that the way the staff is shaping up it's angling towards what it'll look like when KF steps down. Now granted 2 or 3 yrs is a long long time in this world and a lot can change. If Iowa stinks it up they'll be a whole lot less inclined to just hand the torch over to Brian. But if they do well.... It would be interesting to see if and who amongst former teammates of Brians that he'd possibly bring on down the road. But again we are a long ways from that talk mattering
