Jon, please do another podcast explaining how Sally Mason's retirement will positively affect the football program.

I'll hang up now and listen for your answer.

Like he doesn't have enough to do without taking podcast requests from every yahoo that posts on here.

According to Jon's twitter feed Sally Mason's involvement with the football team is deep. I'm interested in hearing what he means exactly.

Are you asking yourself how it will affect Iowa Football or are you wanting Jon to explain to others on how it will affect Iowa Football? Clearly Iowa Football is in the drain right now. Gary Barta doesn't have the stones to Fire Ferentz. The President of the University hires/fires the Athletic Director. Sally Mason clearly didn't care about Hawkeye athletics as evidence by the # of championships the Hawkeyes have in all of sports right now the past several years (We rank dead last in the Big 10). She refused to fire Barta. If you hire a new President, that President can fire Gary Barta. A new AD would probably put the pressure on Ferentz and then fire him. And we get Bielema and start winning Big Time again:) Easy as that.

This. Can it be told in more than 140 characters, or is it only a need-to-know basis for those who follow Jon?

You don't have to be a member on twitter to follow somebody on Twitter. Google Jon Miller Twitter and his tweets will come up.

I think any background Jon could provide about what has transpired behind the scenes between the president's office and the Department of Athletics would be helpful to more fully understand the decline in the football program. Maybe it isn't all on Kirk. If there's something more that the fan base should know, then perhaps it would be a shame to run off a serviceable, committed and passionate coach like Kirk Ferentz.

sounds like someone may want back on the bandwagon

I think it will be a long time before the tenor of those podcasts become positive. If and when they do it will sound awkward. The die might be cast.

I agree with tweets....maybe Schwartz could get on the story. Pulitzer maybe?

who has pocketed probably 30-40 million bucks in the last 15 years, snorts at the media and fans, AND knowing let his kid live in public subsidized section 8 housing....that Kirk Ferentz???

Likely just goes back to Kirk's statements about how he spends his time on non-football matters. He's an ambassador for the U. And I think he'd like to be less of one and tend more often to football matters. I'll speculate that she had some influence in his ambassadorship

Listen to the last podcast Jon and Deace did yesterday. The last 8 - 10 minutes is about Sally Mason, the regents and what her leaving could mean to the athletic programs at Iowa.

Will her exit mean a quick fix? Of course not. But the right president can make all the difference in success versus failure. I still don't have faith the regents will make a good hire however.

Also, as Jon points out in the podcast, Mason is on record saying athletics is only a nuisance for her. That's all I need to know. But wait, there's more. Enrollment at Iowa is lower then at Iowa State, I believe, for the first time ever. Now that's just sad.
