Please Watch This

It's weird. Yesterday and earlier today I was going through archives online of those 1980's teams, bringing up old Daily Iowan articles, box scores, things i hadn't browsed in years, if not decades. Then i get home from a basketball game and see this news, and it's also on ESPN. Spooky coincidence. What a legacy.
Run across any Dime Draw Night ads from Whitfields?

Man this fuckin sucks. Lots of memories come flooding through.

Used to sit on the couch with my old man and watch the Hawks in the 80s. He’s been gone for 12 years now and I’m in his spot with my own kid.

As the great Harry Chapin penned "All of life is a circle..." so just enjoy your time with family and friends because time is one thing we cant control.

A great Hayden and Bo moment was midfield at Kinnick. Coach Fry was elected to the college football Hall of Fame in 2003 and he asked Bo to do the introduction speech.

At a game that Fall, Hayden came on field to be recognized for his entry in the the HOF. He brought Bo with him. When Schembechler was introduced the IOWA crowd gave him a standing ovation. The look he and Fry exchanged was priceless...an authentic moment. Then Fry was introduced and the lid came off the place...they looked at each other again and laughed. Bo passed just 3 years later.

That was something to see.

Interesting to hear him talk a few times in the interview about doing whatever they can within the rules and ethics. Wonder if that had any reference to what he knew was already going on at SMU?

Fry changed everything. I grew up as a Hawkeye fan. My dad took me to most of the home games. My first home game was in 1962. Every season was a losing one (or no better than .500) and then along came Coach Fry. I'll never forget that first game against a very good Indiana team. We led at the half 26-3!!! You cannot imagine how excited my Dad was about this coach.

In 1981 my father attended every game, including the Rose Bowl. You really can't describe the excitement of that season. Not only did Iowa have their first winning season since 1961, but they won the Big Ten and went to the Rose Bowl! Incredible.

I love Coach Ferentz, but there will never be another Hayden Fry.

Actually it was Woodfields. And as I remember it, Monday nights had nickel draws!!
LOL...good catch. I was thinking of their nickname of "white-fields" since they sorta boycotted anybody not meeting that skin color standard. Made the papers and everything.
