placing to 8th at state?

pin2win

@hagertony
anybody else thinks they should go back to placing only 6?

it used to be an honor to get a medal at the iowa state championships and now all you have to do is win your first match or something crazy!

For that matter I say 1-3. lose the 4th place match and you can't call yourself a state place winner.
:)
Honestly though you're probably right but it's not the way of the world any more. It's much more of an "everybody's a winner" atmosphere than anything else. I blame soccer making ties ok in kids eyes and participation awards.

You have to win more than one match to place in the Top 8. I like it, as it give kids additional matches wrestling at the State Tournament.

I like going to 8th place as well. There is nothing like standing up there no matter what place you get! These kids deserve it for all their hard work.

Sixteen wrestlers make it from each weight class to state.

Not trying to argue, but, what makes "sixth" place the magical cutoff versus "eighth"?

To me, just being considered/ranked in the top-10 of my weight class in Iowa HS wrestling would be an honor.

ok you have to win 2 matches to get 8th.

looking at some of talent that is at 7th-8th just don't think they should be an iowa state place winner. ive talked to a lot of hall of fame coaches and they say its good for the kids but in the end they say it downgrades the term being an iowa state place winner
