PJ Fleck Responds to Brian Ferentz Comments

Apparently, you didn't obtain the whole story. There's a reason why Kennedy & White were fired...
They were fired because they knew/encouraged Eno to continue visiting other schools and lied about it. They just wanted Eno to do it on the down low so KF and rest of staff wouldn't have found out. But in todays social media world there was next to no chance of that happening. Doesn't change that Eno wanted to and did take those visits. What we don't know for sure is how did the conversations with Eno go after all was brought to light between he and KF. Evidently they didn't go very well in KFs eyes cause he cut him loose. It's not the same thing as what this whole topic started out as at all.

Not a good example. The school had every intention of signing him prior to his actions. However there's a QB from IL Beneventti from a few yrs back that would be a great example. Iowa offered him and 2 other QBs. They all committed and eventually closer to signing day they yanked his offer because he was the worst of the 3 and they had no intent of singing 3 qbs in one class...
Although, I am not a huge fan of that practice, in this case it may not have been a bad thing. Kid was a four star on some services and dropped. Ended up signing with Western Illinois and is no longer there either. I think at DePaul... Not much call for quarterbacks there.

Brian in the article "...I can tell you this much: If the University of Iowa offers you a scholarship and you commit to us, we intend to sign you...."

One name------> Eno Benjamin

I think the key here is "and you commit to us". KFz's expectation is that once committed you don't keep looking and visiting. So in essence... Eno was the one that broke the deal.

Whether Kennedy and White were at fault (which appears to be the case) or Eno was.... that doesn't make BFz a hypocrite. The guys that weren't consistent with their approach were let go.

Afterwards, maybe Kirk said "no exceptions, I made our policy clear Eno. Your offer is revoked".

Maybe he said "Eno..the assistants were wrong. They gave you bad direction, but you need to be on board with our policy moving forward, OK?" and Eno didn't like that. (he obviously wanted to take more visits, despite knowing the policy).

The only way Eno gets an unqualified free pass is if the assistants said "Coach Ferentz says it's OK"...then he was out and out lied to and Kirk should have given him a pass.

Just so he doesn't go for 150 and 2 TDs against us in a bowl game.

I think accepting 3 qbs commitments was the mistake. The coaches kept them all on the hook till after their sr seasons played out and took the 2 they preferred.. From the schools side it's a great deal. No loss at all. But Benevennti could have been shopping himself out there for a longer period of time. I'm not sure if he was already or not perhaps he was. But if he was abiding by KFs policy of no visits he was only handcuffing himself to an extent. I can't remember how close to signing day it was that he cut him loose but it was well after his season was over it seemed like I'm sure it could be looked up. To me it's not about the end result of his career. Sure Iowa got the better of it. But the kid may have been able to go someplace else than Western IL to start if he'd have had more time to shop himself to other places....

If I remember correctly, Benevennti got suspended from his team for violating team rules after getting benched. The staff went and visited him and that's when they pulled his offer. Right or wrong, Bennevennti was probably not living up to the expectations the staff expected out of a future hawkeye quarterback and leader.
