Well...better than him ending up at Okey State or Penn State.

i guess if you're just a Hawk fan, but as a wrestling fan I'm very disappointed. Probably the best kid we've seen come through the ranks in several decades and we will barely get to see him wrestle at all. I hope he's making the right choice but I fear he's not. There's a lot of value in college wrestling and just the college experience in general. He's putting a lot of stock into being an Olympic champion. It's a risky proposition in my opinion. I wish him the best.

no more high school? wow! this russian influence has struck hard. also wonder if the decision by the olympic committee to cancel wrestling got his mind jump started to move ahead faster to get a gold in 2016. when the decision was temporarily reversed - i think his mindset did not - and he fell in love with the idea of getting 2 golds.

Sucks to hear we won't be able to watch him in college.

Go USA
or high school anymore - he did wrestle up 2/3 weight classes last winter sometimes to face the best guy on the other teams. i guess he needed a challenge

You know, I'm actually not disappointed. He admitted folkstyle isn't a love for him, and apparently getting any type of an education (HS or post secondary) isn't either. I don't want to cheapen his talents or legacy by him going through the motions of 4 years in college to satisfy our selfishness. Lets face it, the rigors of D1 wrestling are tough for kids who LOVE the sport.

I do agree with you about the value of college--both the experience and the education. I hope he's going to make enough to cover him in case of an injury, because the job market is pretty small for someone with no work experience, and no high school or college diploma.
