Persa not healthy

Wondering if Persa is really going to recover from his injury. I'm guessing he will not. I won't be surprised if he doesn't play at all in their opener.

Statement of fact. Article in Chicago Tribune today, plus ESPN Big Ten blog. He hasn't been released to play.

He sure as heck isn't 100% and won't be this year. The number 2 QB is getting more snaps in practice.

I'm no good with the links, so you'll have to check it out the way I did.

I don't think his recovery has progressed they want they wanted it to.

Fitzgerald quote: "If he's ready he'll play, if he's not, he won't."

You don't just snap back from this type of injury. If he's not ready now, he won't be ready in the foreseeable future. If he plays, his mobility will be limited. He's not the same QB without the running ability.

I'm a little surprised more people aren't tracking this story......

I think that with a healthy Persa at the helm that Northwestern could really surprise some people this season. But if he can't go, they simply won't be the same team.

With a healthy Persa, NU would prolly be a 9 or 10 win ballclub. Without him, they are prolly about the same as the 2010 Iowa squad, 7-5 and a lucky play against Indiana away from 6-6.

That is the million dollar question. I am saying no. He might end up @ 80-90%, but I dont think he ever recovers totally. He has an arm on him and is a good student of the game. He goes to NU so you know he is smart. So I hope they can adjust, because you hate to see that with any kid. How many fits can we give Fitz?

Northwestern has never beaten Iowa when NU has had a dinged up QB. Our coaching staff is simply too good to lose to NU at anything less than 100%.

Really? 2009 sprints to mind. Kafka was nowhere near 100% in that game, and Persa wasn't ready yet to take the reins as a passer.

You dumb Northwestern Troll.

I'm not a Northwestern Troll. The 2010 to 2011 NU team could have looked a lot like the 2008 to 2009 Iowa team in terms of being very competitive and losing a lot of close games, but then having a core group of returning starters that gets some bounces and turns the close losses in one year into close wins the next year - I saw the 2011 NU squad as being a contender for the division with a healthy Persa. NU got absolutely rolled in the last two B10 games in 2010, but the biggest reason for that was the defense getting hung out to dry the second team QB.

Fitz is the best coach in the conference, as evidenced by the fact that he (a) owns Iowa, (b) has almost as good of a record as Ferentz in his tenure despite being thrust into the job too early and (c) has done (a) and (b) with absolutely terrible facilities. He was also a candidate for the Michigan job. This ain't the doormat NU program that we all grew up with, Fitz is building a helluva program and it's about time for them to go to another Rose Bowl, as they have been to the Rose Bowl more recently than Iowa.

I hope that someday Iowa can muster up a defense that can beat the cats again, but I ain't holding my breath after all the defensive meltdowns I've witnessed.

Oh wait, you mean Northwestern beat the first Iowa team to win a BCS caliber bowl game in 50 years with a dinged up QB? I must have blocked that game out of my memory. No way we could have lost that one, Ken had the O dialed in early, we were crushing them.

Trolling again. Everytime you can say anything about NU to **** off Hawk fans you do.

Til we called a naked boot in the endzone. Most of the time I agree with KOK's play calls, but that one will always have me scratching my head.
