Penrith is out at UNI

nobody for a scholarship but to get in the wrestling room for wrestling partners. no way do we have the money or room for scholarships im just saying why wouldn't you want those guys in the room if they will walk on hoping for scholarships in the future they wouldn't be the only ones trying to do so.

guess i wouldn't say chomping at the bit but im sure they thought about who they could snag

Sadly, I see UNI losing its team pretty soon when the state schools athletic budgets have to operate without state funds within a couple of years. Damn Title XIX.

Last I heard UNI can still drop one sport and stay D-I. So, I'm gonna guess UNI wrestling will eventually get told the same thing baseball got - "become self-funding, or else."

Of course UNI will continue to operate with the assumption that they will be able to stay D1. They shouldn't have any issues doing that unless the Regents actually act on their threats. Truthfully, if it comes down to needing to drop programs, then if I were UNI's AD I'd force the regent's hand and force them to do something about it. Let the blood be on their hands and the public will respond.

I believe that the regents are still appointed by the governor so I wonder if this will come up at all in the next election.

Brands won't lose sleep over trying snag panthers, but I could see a few of their recruits (Wolf, Weatherman, and Noble) getting looks from other universities.

I have no clue about the future of the program. I just know I'm glad Penrith is gone. The west gym used to be a fun place to go watch wrestling, they used to have a handfull of all-americans, the dual with Iowa would have at least a match or two that would have a little anticipation... Whoever they get in there I hope it comes back. UNI should be a perenial team in the range of 8th to 15th place.

At some point does Miller consider the UNI job? His legacy is set in stone for D3. If not what about the Big O? Alot of former Hawks are getting talked about, but most mentioned don't the experience of building a program the way O does. Would Dannon consider ex-cyclones like Hesket or Bono?

Talking with a big wrestling fan here at work, we discussed whether Bono would throw his hat in the ring? He has head coaching experience. One would think that the recruiting crop in Iowa is a little better than that around Tennessee-Chattanoga.

I guess I'll add my 2 cents on this subject. First off USA says they are going to try the best to get the best available and keep the program running at a DI level. I BELIEVE him over just about anybody out there! He would know guys so don't doubt him!!! Ok now on to my thoughts on coaches: Would Love to see the Schaub brothers take it over and have a Schaub vs. Brands thing in the future but that is NOT likely. My second pick is former Iowa GREAT Mark Perry! Another coach that they would have a hard time getting out of Cal Poly. My 3rd pick would be the Zaddick family taking it over and having a similar thing to the Schaub thing.
Here's some more food for thought if they cut the program(which I don't believe they will) where do National Duals get moved to since its there for the next 3 for sure.

Who are the Schaub's? Are they related to the Texan's QB?

Perry is too green.

Bart Chelesvig would be a great fit at UNI. He is originally from the N. Central Iowa. He has the experience in re-building with the Wisconsin program.

gonna have to get a big name in there if they want it to succeed i think..if kids are gonna come from out of state they are going to go iowa-isu-uni for their choices every time unless they get someone big

Was Chelesvig forced out of Wisconsin or did he take another job?

What's a big name in wrestling? All the guys who have been mentioned I'd consider a big name in wrestling. The name won't matter at UNI at all. They'll always be the third choice in Iowa. I think getting someone from in the state with ties to the high schools would be more beneficial. I really think Miller is the best choice, if he'd do it.

if miller would go think he'd be best choice with his ties to high schools

idk just trying to think outside of the box on a name and i can't think of one that will make uni a top 10 team this state is hard to compete with!

other board says Randall and L Zalesky applied....Randall is interesting....i thought maybe ISU would snag him last year
