penn state's issues affects all athletic programs

@hagertony
been lurking on the psu wrestling forums and ppl are freaking out over there

what are you guys opinions on how this will affect the wrestling program for future recruits

Can't be good, but not a lot. Not good for recrutiing especially in light of Long.

Might make coaches have extra meetings/training stuff. Minor distraction, but not something I bet they want to spend their time on.

They will not do anything to Cael. I doubt wrestling will have any long term effects. The only issue I see is that the AD is in the can and that might have some issues. However I could see it being a positive for wrestling as they will possibly focus more on a successful program going forward...

Side note, I feel that JoPa is a out. I assume they are trying to figure out a way to move on from Paterno with some thread of dignity. This is a very ugly situation and is going to tarnish any legacy Paterno had. Really sad story...

the andrew long story doesn't help but the only reason why it would hurt recruiting is if the parents of these kids didn't want to attend the program. kids will want to go to a good program and thats what penn state has established as of late so if they want to go this won't be an issue. my hope is parents get involved in their decision and send em to iowa city instead

I guess it hurts the reputation of Penn State as a whole, but I don't think it will have much effect on their wrestling program specifically. I don't have a lot of sympathy for anyone there who knew about this, but allowed it to be swept under the rug.

We still haven't heard Paterno's side of this story, so its wise to wait to see what he has to say. At this point, it doesn't look good for the coaching staff, the AD, the administration, or even the president of the university.

I hope they don't let him leave with any thread of diginity. It is a sad story, but only for those kids. Not for any of the pieces of S that let a scumbag prey on kids for a decade.

It will hurt because they won't be able to get away with as little as jaywalking in any sports program. The wrestling team has not exactly been taking the hard line when looking at off the mat issues of the PSU wrestlers and those days will be gone. No way an Andrew Long sails right in and starts no questions asked after this issue. Sherlock would be sitting out a while or gone etc. etc. Besides the rest of the country will never let them forget this one. I'm sure civil suites will be streaming in left and right. Pedo State will deserve eveything they get for the terrible coverup.
