Joe Buck,

If watching Brian Ferentz trying to call offense isn't enough to make you dislike nepotism, listening to Joe Buck should. Jack Buck was a helluva an announcer. Joe sucks. The only time he didn't screw something up was that prolonged period during the US Open when the audio feed was broken. Joe Buck's call of the legendary Randy Moss moon was the worst call of a phenomenal sports play ever.

The only way I will listen to Buck in the World Series is if my Cardinals are playing in it, which they will this year, so I will have to stomach hearing his voice.

Joe Buck likes to come off understated and half way quiet.

Funny, Jack Buck was so excitable and called a great game. Jack Buck was Harry Carey's second guy in the booth back in the 60's until Harry went to the Cubs. And father Harry Carey was loud and laughable and lovable yet Skip Carey is/was like Joe Buck quiet and understated.

The sons seem to be going out of their way to be opposite their dad's and make their own style. Romo is a very good analyst. Gary Danielson is very knowledgeable and was tops when he was at ESPN.

Has there ever been a more boring duo than Buck & Aikman?

Romo is really good though. Lots of good insights, and gets excited a lot.

Agreed, Romo is good as is Jim Nantz. Aikman states the obvious all the time. Troy Aikman "It's 2nd & 4 for the Giants, so they'll need to get 4 yards to get the first down." That's the kind of non sense that he spews on air.

These shifts from the data analytics have taken a big human element out of the management side of the game, too. I only follow the playoffs, but they put up the HR numbers in one of the games. Is it safe to assume they have juiced the hell out of the ball, or has the movement of the league to just bring in guys who strike out a lot because they are only going for homers led to the higher HR production?
It's probably a bit of both. Anything the hitter can "barrel up" has a potential of leaving the yard. Anthony Rendon on Wednesday was a perfect example-that wasn't a bad pitchers pitch but he was able to get the fat part of the bat on it.

Here's another element. Umpires in the nineties, when the Braves pitchers had their run, got lax with the strike zone, particularly low and outside. Pitchers threw with tremendous confidence when they knew the Eric Gregg's of the world were going to add an entire baseball width to the outside corner. Now that plate umpires are rated for performance pitchers have to be careful when they try to nick the corner. Miss your spot by six inches and that pitch is over the heart of the plate. I believe regulation of the strike zone has been as big a factor in home run explosion as launch angle or juiced baseballs.

Once I got married (in 1997) and started having kids, nieces and nephews I simply found better things to do with my Sundays. I stopped playing fantasy football after 2009, including the dynasty league I was in, and that diminished my NFL interest even further. It was about time that my kids started playing in Pop Warner leagues and on traveling basketball and volleyball teams. Add in advancements in electronic technology, and there was absolutely no reason for me to waste entire Sundays in front of the tube anymore.

I watch football and football-related programming from 9AM until almost midnight pretty much every Saturday of the college season now that my son is done with youth football, and I don’t consider it a waste of time. I enjoy the hell out of it.

However, the only way I can do that and still get things done is by not giving a shit about NFL football and using my Sundays for other things. I have friends who watch all day both days, but I wouldn’t want to nor would I be able to.

My son plays junior high games every Thursday for 8 weeks, we go to varsity games (home and away) on Friday, and then Saturday is the big day. By the time Sunday rolls around I’m footballed out already, let alone watching that sickening bullshit Robert Kraft owns.

I think some of the disinterest in pro sports comes from the investment you have in the teams playing.

Growing up, my team was the Miami Dolphins (homer, I know, but I was in kindergarten or so when they won their first title).

I moved to Phoenix after graduating from Iowa and became a big Cardinals, Suns, and D-Backs fan. I rarely missed any of these team's games, whether it was on TV or in person. Now that I am back in Iowa for 10 years +, I still follow those teams, but not as closely as I would have if I still lived in Phoenix. Combine that with how none of my favorite pro teams (including the Dolphins) have done much of anything recently, along with the douche baggery that comes with being a "professional", and my interest has waned.

My interest would increase a little if my favorite teams did better because I would see them on TV more often and because they made it interesting, but only a bit. Entitled, greedy, self-promoting players have ruined pro sports, and unfortunately college sports will probably follow.

Walter Payton or Barry Sanders never saw the need to do some sort of theatrical performance in the end zone after scoring a TD, why do players who couldn't hold their jocks and are making 10X the money see it as necessary?

Proximity to teams is a big thing IMO.

When I moved to St. Louis, I was a Detroit Tigers fan. Now I liked the Cards but they were not my favorites. Now Im a die hard Cardinals fan and rarely know what the Tigers are doing.

Same with the Blues. Never watched hockey in Iowa. Now Im a casual fan. I would be a bigger fan if I went to more games. Live hockey is awesome.

NFL sucks. They screwed St. Louis over big time. I hope they get hammered in the lawsuits.

Weather for high school football has been close to perfect all year, and in Wisconsin that means one week sooner than Iowa. No week was too hot or too cold.

Until tonight. Rough night to watch a high school game.

We had 18° wind chill and snow tonight. First game I didn’t go to in a couple years. I’m too old for that shit.

You would go ice fishing in -18° wind chill!:)

I know there are shacks and shanty's out on the lakes but tonight was a reminder that lakes and rivers will start freezing in a few weeks.
