I think KF deserves a ton of credit for moving Morgan to DL coach. That group has played above expectations and kudos to KF for making that move. It was a bit of a head scratcher when it was announced but has paid off.
No...no...NO! It's doom and gloom season! This program is dead, not rebuilding or young (inexplicable exception being the senior QB who would throw a 2 yard pass into double coverage even if every DL was pancaked on a 3rd and 6)! Keep your eye on the target, Mav!My opinion only, but probably too early to tell for sure. It does appear he developed game rep talent very quickly this year though.
I'd add, as if anyone already didn't know this, I'm on board for the entire staff change. I believe that the attempts to throw into space (kinda sorta this year given lack of speed) has changed our running game, which was already decent. I could bore you with details, but I watch with binos at the games, and the line play on both sides of the ball has been improving significantly game to game. Like nothing I've ever seen before. The false starts against MSU we bothersome, but overall, I'm as encouraged about Iowa football as I've been in a long time.
I really wish Raymon would have stayed with the team. I always thought he would be a beast. He came in 6'5" 250 pounds and a pretty good athlete. What would have been.
Anyone else not surprised that Trinca-Pasat’s deciding not to quit the program almost exactly conicided with Rick Kaczenski leaving for Nebraska? Those guys on the DL have to be loving the fact RM is coaching them now.
As Jon frequently talks about on SoundOff, I think it is due to Reese teaching in a more encouraging, motivating way, rather than the Rick K scream and yell and tell the kid how ****** he is.Anyone else not surprised that Trinca-Pasat’s deciding not to quit the program almost exactly conicided with Rick Kaczenski leaving for Nebraska? They certainly aren't the liability everyone thought they would be.
I think we all know which position fits that bill...
I don't think this was or is overlooked. It was clear that the DLine was basically being abused. KF said as much when he discussed why he asked Morgan to take over the line because they needed to "be built back up." Seriously, that language we use for people who have experienced significant trauma.

Definitely huge props to Morgan developing the DL and KF for nudging Kaz out the door (and hiring Brian, who many were whining about nepotism, but seems to clearly be a fantastic hire). I very, very incorrectly thought Kaz's drill sergeant demeanor would get the most out of his players. Instead it sounds as if he was nothing but a raging ***** and berated and belittled them as much as possible. There were also a couple tweets from Clayborn and Lebron Daniel over the weekend re Kaz that another poster noted, in which it seemed they were laughing about Nebby getting drilled by OSU a couple wks ago (tweets seem directed at Kaz, not Nebby). Definitely get the impression none of Kaz's former players have any positive sentiments towards him. The saddest and most frustrating thing is the attrition effect Kaz had on the DL while he was here. Amazing the damage that guy inflicted in a only being at IA a few yrs. in the talent he drove away.
When you look at our units to this point...the best groups are:
D-line- Reese Morgan
O-Line- Brian Ferentz
LB's- LeVar Woods
These new coaches for these units have done a good job so far.....well done,KF!
