What do you think we are going to draw tomorrow?

It's really hard to set this number. Historically our NIT attendance has been mixed. In 2002 we drew 10,500 for our first round NIT game against LSU. That's a really nice crowd. In 2003 the NIT magic had worn off and the game (like this year) happened during spring break and we only drew 2,761 for the 1st round game. The third round NIT game that year (we beat Valp in round 1, and ISU at Lames in round 2) versus Georgia Tech we drew just over 9k. We also had home games in both 1998 and 1995, but box scores for those games proved too difficult to find.

This year is interesting, first the pros...

Iowa fans are no doubt hungry for our first post season game in what feels like a decade. Home town hero Matt Gatens should inspire local people to turn out. There is a lot of energy around the program right now.

Now for the cons...

We only have two days to make plans to attend the game. That's a relatively short turn around. The students are on spring break.

Taking everything into account.... I'm going to set the number at 7,000. Perhaps I'm being a bit optimistic, but I think we can get that done. What say you Hawkeye Nation?

I think you set the bar to low at 7K. You should have tried 9K, if I was Vegas setting the over/under for attendance that is where I would have set it at.

9k is where i thought we could be with students. spring break will have a huge impact on the attendance. The last time we played an NIT game during spring break we drew less than 3k.

Was that the NIT game against Georgia? I keep thinking there were 6000 at the game. I was at that game, sat in the 5th row, and was amazed at all the empty seats.

I think it is a very solid number. Unfortunately, I am going to go with the under just because of the amount of time there is to get everything together and the students being gone. I don't think much under, but I still think under.

No, the Georgia game was in 1998 and I couldn't find a box score for that game. We did play Georgia tech in 03 and drew around 9k, so we had 5k+ empty seats at minimum, so you were pretty close if you were thinking Georgia tech.

But how many students typically attend the game? I am just guessing but it looked like there were around 2000 for the NW game. I do not think the students are going to be that big of an impact on the overall attendance. If they can get 8K into CHA for a non conference game when the students are gone to Christmas break I would think we could get at least 9K to a NIT game when Iowa has not been to the post season in 5 years.

Anybody know what ticket prices are for this game?

I bet someone beats me to this, but $15 & $5 is what they are charging.

Nah, it was Georgia as it was Ricky Davis's final game as a Hawk.

I went with the over. I will be going and should be a 7000 crowd minimal. I don't think it will be a sellout or anything, but I'm guessing somewhere around 10k. Should be fun, looking forward to it.
And so the ticket info is correct, $15 for adults, $5 for students and younger (Youth).

According to the box score in this year's History & Record Book, Iowa drew 5,167 for the Georgia NIT game in '98.
