Over/Under: Izzo Game Changing BS Calls He Gets

Oh you mean the game in where MSU was called for 29 fouls to our 19.. The one where we went to the line 43 times and made 30 of them and we lost by 2 in OT.. That game??

That's the one. The one where they got called for holding and pushing almost every time down the court until the refs had no choice but to not only give in, but also call phantom **** at the other end to try to help the discrepancy.

I don't know why some fans get so upset over any talk about officiating. We can't even discuss a bad call during the game without having to sift through 30 "don't blame the refs" posts. I guess some people just don't understand the difference between talking about poor officiating and outright blaming refs for a loss. Either that or they never realized that once you're not a part of the team, there is nothing wrong with b!tching about refs. It's not like fans need to "only worry about what we can control" since we can't control anything.

I'm chill Melrose, but one thing that gets me going is those that blame games on Officiating, I get it when it's warranted but that rarely happens for me.. Tonight will most likely be know different.. If Iowa plays better than MSU we will win despite officiating.. The Gameday Threads especially the Basketball one if Iowa is in a tough hard fought games it turns and gets unreadable for me because many go microscopic evaluations on Officiating and it gets to be over the top for me.. Officials have very tough job especially in BB but they are not out to get Iowa as much as some Hawk fans think they are.. I just find it lame.

It's an extremely inaccurate statement to say that the team that plays better wins reguardless of officials. I tell you what though, if I thought that teams never had to outplay their opponents by a large margin to make up for poor officiating, I would think it's lame to complain about them too.

Under.. It's in carver.. Stop whining!!

So now we whining about officiating before the game even starts. That makes perfect sense.

I can't stand BB Threads anymore for this reason it becomes a crying game..

Agreed. Those who want to cry and whine about officiating can go over to Cyclone Fanatic and feel right at home. I certainly don't want Hawkeye fans to drop to that level.

I think from the original post it would be WAY OVER, if you count the fouls on the MSU bullies that won't get called. They will push and shove our skinny bigs around and not get called.

So 2 or 3 whistles that get called going the wrong way sounds about right... but B1G officials always let Izzo's bullies throw people around and don't call it.

This could be a rough night... I sure hope not, but I have seen too much of the way MSU plays to think otherwise. They really aren't that "talented" this year like in past years, either. So ... I think Izzo will really push their kids to be even more physical than usual.

just my 2 cents... I have been wrong before.

Also, we may be able to give up some fouls to them a bit more as their FT shooting is abysmal at something like 64%. Iowa is 3rd in the nation at around 78%, I believe. This could be a difference. I say be physical back with Woody & Co. Try to get Oleseni to the line as he's shooting lights out over 80% & some change.

It's all good. Seriously, I don't get worked up over bad calls, usually. Stuff like the fake flop is wrong though, but many times officials blow the whistle out of impulse, then they are left having to call something. I get that. It's a fast game. It just seems like Izzo really gets a lot of "game changing" and timely calls. That's it. It should be fun to watch.

And if we shoot our season average (for last year) for FTs in that game we make 2 more FTs. If we shoot this year's season average, we make 4 more. Yeah, there were bad calls. We need to play through them and not use them as an excuse.

A game where we shot like a billion more free throws than they did. But we lost because of the refs.
I could blame Izzo for coaching his team to play defense by grabbing and pushing but I would rather blame refs for letting him get away with it. This really had more to do with Izzo's coaching in general than one specific game. The last 3 times we played them have all been the exact same thing. We lead early when the officials are calling the game properly, then we lose the lead because the refs give up on calling the grabbing and pushing. Of course by then they are calling us for hand checks and illegal screens to try to ballance the foul discrepancy. Watch Ogelsby tonight trying to move without the ball.

So far it's actually been called pretty well. Izzo got the technical that he deserved. He was out on the court yelling too many times. They did miss a couple m$u traveling calls but they were not as obvious as last years. Trice had the anticipated flops called in his favor, uhhr. I hope this keeps up, and that the game is called this well in the second half and the refs don't let Izzo get to them.

The refs let Izzo get to them in the second half. M$U was fouling and hacking down low all half. What a terribly called second half. Also that punk Trice was hand checking on D and that should have been called along with more missed traveling calls. Also on one of his "threes" he had a foot on the line and it should have only been a two.

I don't think Iowa got the flat-out boned call this game as in the past though. It was Iowa not being able to get someone out on 3 attempts that sunk them. Trice killed them. He should have had someone like White or Uthoff on him with their height to deter his shot.

That's right, the refs had 0 impact on this game. It was all our lack of shooting, and MSU, specifically Trice getting super hot and then us melting down per usual.
