Out of Town Non-Iowa Fans Coming to MSU Game

Three buddies from NJ wanted to see what Iowa football and Iowa City game day is all about after hearing about it for years. So they bought 7th row tix on 30 yard line for MSU. Given that we are flying in and won't have tailgate stuff, what's the best pre-game experience for 3 Kinnick virgins. Early 30s. Rowdy is good.

Is the Magic Bus still an option?
 
The magic bus is no more unfortunately. Get yourself a bigass turkey leg, and I highly reccomend the tacos and burritos from the La Reyna stand.
 
remember it's a blackout. make sure to wear black. get there early, lots to see and do all around Kinnick. have fun and welcome!!
 
Tell them to not act like typical new jersey guidos. That modern fonzie sh!t doesn't work in The IC.
 
Where are you staying? Traffic is horrible getting near the stadium from around 7:00-7:30 and later. I'm too old to know where rowdy is anymore. I'll let the students steer you in the right direction ;)
 
At the Sheraton. I am born and raised in the QCA and have been going to games for 30 years, but always had our own tailgate or joined friend's. Obviously we'll just walk to Kinnick, but these guys want to do it all.

They could go tom Pagliai's after the game. Hard to get in there however, and most east coast folks idea of pizza is quite a bit less done than Iowa's idea of "cooked".

Honestly, I don't think it matters what they do. I've been to almost every B1G school for game day, and also to a Mizzo-Kansas game, and a UCLA game.

The atmosphere is quite a bit more electric, and we usually treat visitors well.
 
Continuing my last comment.

People talk about Iowa fans being friendly and all, but I go to bowl games most years for the Hawks with the wife and sometimes the kids and we have never been "invited" to tailgate when walking through tailgate alley.

Not that I have expected an invitation. But I hear this happens often. So, what is the protocol?

Stop by and start talking is usually all it takes. If appear to be an interesting person most people will want you to stick around.

Yes make it seem as much like visiting a county fair as possible. Jeepers maybe there will be a clown making ballon animals somewhere on Melrose too.

Find a tailgate. I am out of town otherwise you could join us. I am sure there are people here who would invite you.
 
Stop at "Hawks To Go" trailer, 120 Golfview Ave, it's two houses off Melrose. As a virgin, you get a free shot of the "gameday" special. Pretty cool setup as well.
