OT: Patriots out; who wins Super Bowl??

I would like to see the Chiefs win it all, but it would be great to see George Kittle hoist the Lombardi Trophy up in victory.

That's basically what I meant by "father time." The wear and tear will catch up to him, but the thing about Jackson, unlike Newton et al, is that he almost never takes a direct hit.

But, I disagree that he is just another wild cat type QB. He's a unique talent - a quicker, faster Michael Vick with Patrick Mahomes' arm. The NFL has never seen anything like him.

It will be interesting to see how his career plays out.

Jackson is very similar to Michael Vick in that he seems to play about as safe as a running QB can. Vick had a knack for not taking massive hits like Newton always seemed to do. And Vick had a very long NFL career. And Jackson has the advantage of being protected by rules far better than Vick was.

No one has the durability to run like that and last in the NFL.

The wild-catty QB is a gimmick that works great in college, but beyond that it’s just a couple flashy seasons and NFL defenses are on to you. Those guys can outrun college defensive linemen and linebackers, but not at the pro level. Cam Newton was going to be the next big thing too, but that has totally flopped.

There’s a reason why Rodgers, Brady, Manning, Favre, Elway, Marino, Montana are the goats, and none of those guys could run worth a F.

Mahomes, Jackson, et al are great talents no doubt, but their careers will fizzle out due to injury and general wear and tear.

Mahomes is special. He is just a younger version of Aaron Rodgers.

I like to root for the teams with the most ex-Hawkeyes on their roster. The Bill's also lost yesterday, with 3 ex-Hawks. So the candidates are now

GB Packers (Josh Jackson, Bryan Bulaga)
KC Chiefs (Ben Nieman, Anthony Hitchens)
Minn Vikings (Jaleel Johnson, Riley Reiff)
Eagles (Keegan Render)
SF 49ers (CJ Beathard, George Kittle, Ross Reyonlds)
Tenn Titans (Parker Hesse, Amani Hooker)
Balt Ravens (Marshall Yanda)

So following my own rule, I will be rooting for the Eagles over Seahawks and vikings over the Saints today.

Next week it gets trickier.
Kittle is the one ex - hawk that has the potential to be superbowl MVP, so I'm pulling for the niners.

Yanda as well, but we all know they will never pick an offensive lineman.

Changing gears, does anyone know if Zach Ertz is the son of former late eighties Iowa defensive end Mike Ertz? I've always wondered.

Drop to 29th? I am selfish I much rather see him in a Iowa uniform if he is going to drop that far.
It will be more like 23 or 24 now. And I could easily see him dropping that low with all the underclassmen coming out. It all depends on what specific teams need.

Being projected at any spot, say top fifteen, and actually getting drafted there are two different things.

That was the Vikings biggest road postseason win since, I don't know, maybe the nineties? Maybe at Lambeau?

Yeah the Vikes have both a top 10 offense and defense and could be tough. Their record is deceiving because they started 2-2 so they finished 9-3 I think which is damn good.

That was a huge monkey off Kirk Cousins back.

They will be going into Frisco with no pressure on them.

Yesterday was probably the end of the line for Buffalo's Frank Gore, who has had an unbelievable career.

He blew out both knees in college and could conceivably have never had an NFL career at all. He was also competing for carries with Clinton Portis and Willis McGahee for a team that was sort of stacked at running back. (It was like when tOSU had Robert Smith, Raymont Harris, Carlos Snow and Eddie George-on one team)

Instead he's lasted fifteen years. At running back. He's moved up the list in a lot of career rushing statistics and has been a model of consistency.

I would compare him to former NBA'er Derek Smith (RIP, also a member of Louisville's 1980 team) Derek had knee issues early in his career and fell off the map for a while, then came back with the Clippers and others and had an endless career as a consistent performer. Piled up a lot of points.

Frank Gore was still playing! That is amazing.
