OT: For The BBQ Folks...

Just a heads-up that HyVee is running a $.99/lb deal for Hormel bone-in pork shoulders (all stores) through next Tuesday, 10/13.

Those are my preferred brand for pulled pork and that's a ridiculous price. I picked up four of 'em.

Thank you sir!

There's information I can use! There are a few HyVee stores up here, hope I can cash in on this one.
They don't do this sale real often, but it's the best one HyVee does IMO. Last week they were $3.19/lb so essentially you're getting 3 for 1, and since they're vacuum packed you can freeze 'em indefinitely. The four I bought should last me through past New Year's.

Yep! Just bought an 8-pounder tonight. I'll be throwing that on the smoker bright and early saturday morning.

Not sure if you guys already know this, but about once a month HyVee does a 10/$10 deal on their in-house brand skinless brats which are damn good, especially on the smoker or pellet grill (sale is on right now, btw). They have plain, bacon cheddar, beer, pineapple, and my personal favorite, jalapeno cheddar. It's a super easy option to feed a bunch of people at a tailgate or watch party and you can't beat the price of a dollar apiece.

I usually grab 10, half jalapeno and half bacon cheddar (my kid likes that one). Throw them on the smoker all at once and run 'em up to 160, about a half hour or so. Eat a couple for supper and take the rest to work throughout the week. They're also good for breakfast on the weekends if you have a couple leftover in the fridge.

I actually like them better than the Tiefenthalers which are smaller and way more expensive. One of the hidden gems at HyVee.

My mom has one of those deep freezers that looks like a casket and that sumnabitch stays stocked with shoulder. She only buys it when it is .99 or 1.49/lb at Hy-Vee and just absolutely loads up on it.

Perhaps HyVee should be buying some ad space on HN ;)

They don't need to. I haven't lived in Iowa in 15 years and I still have their jingle seared into my brain.

"Hy-Vee, shop Hy-Vee, where there's a helpful smile, in every aisle."

I'd stab a man in the neck for a bag of those Hy-Vee wavy potato chips from the '80's that came packaged in the double brown bag and a container of AE Mexican dip.

9lb shredded pork shoulder, a tub each of HyVee mac salad and potato salad, couple bags of Old Dutch sour cream and onion, case of Busch Light, a handle of Cookies BBQ sauce (not my preference) and a stack of paper plates.

It does not get any more Iowa than that.

Sorry...gotta go with Hometown Dairy french onion dip. I'll die on that hill. :)

Well, crap. I was just at HyVee and forgot. I'll have to go back. Thankfully, ours has a bar attached.

Man, I just go to the store and buy meat when I feel like it lol Deals lol I'm binge watching The Sopranos for the first time. I'm craving pasta like nobody's business. Geez!

I smoke pork shoulders on a regular basis, use it for pulled pork, tacos, omelettes, quesadillas, fajitas, chili, all kinds of stuff.

My HyVee is usually $3.19/lb. I went back this afternoon and bought 3 more, so I have 7 total in my freezer. The total weight is right at 62 lbs. Buying them when the deal is on saved me $136 vs regular price. That’s real money.
