OT: Distraction

What's everyone doing for Labor Day?

Pretty low key here, our town's celebration days thing is always Labor Day week/weekend, but everything is canceled. I think we're going to just get together at a friend's house and smoke some pork shoulder, and I have a bunch of bluegill fillets that need to get eaten up. Possible fire pit use, yard games (I'm the Ladder Ball champ of the universe, my friends...) and probably lots of playing catch. My kid plays baseball and my friend's two daughters both play softball. We might go down and play some disc golf as well but nothing overly exciting. That's the way I like it.

Anyone have any plans??

No goddamn COVID shaming either. Start a new thread for that if you feel so inclined.

Boating on the St Croix River Saturday and Sunday. We usually pull up to a beach at some point and partake in the normal shenanigans. My buddy has a nice dock slip so we'll do grilling there afterward with his marina crew.

I'm definitely going to miss the usual docking for an hour or so to check in on the opening weekend of college football. Hopefully in 2021.

Well, Fry, I'm not sure at the present. I'm flying to LA and bringing my daughter back from that shit show this weekend, so I'm sure I'll do something with her. What? No clue. Just glad she's coming home

Was going to go to Darlington for the Southern 500 with my dad and few buddies, but that's off the table. No plans as of yet. Labor Day doesn't really feel like the end of summer in the South because you're still drawing 90 degree days deep into September and even the first week of October. Start of fall is more like Halloween because it's usually still in the mid to high 70's by then. Definitely will watch the Tide and Dawgs if the SEC can play that weekend. My buddy's wife is supposed to be induced on September 3 and will bring the baby home that weekend, so my guess is no matter what, their 2 and 4 year olds will be over at my house for a big chunk of the weekend so we can give mama some time to recover.

That’s mighty nice of you folks.

And that kid is gonna have Labor Day birthday parties for the rest of its life. When he or she is 21 it’s gonna be full throttle.

Meeting some buddies for a two day golfing trip in Fort Dodge.

Willow Ridge on Sunday and Fort Dodge CC on Monday. Never played either so looking forward to it.

Playing the best golf of my life as not much else to be doing the last 5 months. This new USGA world handicapping system is a little too generous. Has me down to a 5.9 and I would NOT play anyone for money on that.

Probably a little beer drinking as well.

Playing yourself, officiating, or your kid playing?

I have experience with all three in baseball and neither of them sound fun on Labor Day weekend.

My playing days are long behind me lol. I coach an 11U and assist with 12U team so I'll most likely have anywhere between 6 and 10 games on the weekend. I also coach Jr. Academy made up of 6-8 year olds, luckily they don't play in that tournament. Hopefully the weathers nice and the tournament's in Muscatine so less than an hour drive. If weather holds up its usually a good weekend, but clouds and 60-70 degree temps wouldn't be a bad thing. I have a feeling its not going to be real pretty as most of the kids have been sitting on their couches the past 6 months and are just getting their legs back.

Not sure what to expect from the 12U team, but the 11U team has the talent to win any tournament they enter. I've coached for almost 25 years, and the talent level on the 11U group is phenomenal with that group. Great kids and great skill so it should be a fun weekend.

It's going to be low key for me as well.

First of all I will be working Saturday for sure a d possibly Sunday as our volume remains high and drivers ask for time off.

Second of all our community church picnic, the biggest event our community holds all year, has been canceled. First time since I started dating my wife 25 years ago that we won't have that huge local event. In past years we have chaired the hamburger stand and would be busy scheduling work shifts at this time but we haven't chaired in ten years. This year no one else will be either.

Maybe try to get down to Lake McBride where the family of my daughter's fiance has a huge RV set up all summer. Maybe Governor Dodge state park.

I don't know for sure, but I do know it will be strange with no football. That's when I will start to really miss it. Working Saturdays this fall might end up being a huge blessing.

Welp, change of plans. I have a detailing business on the side and within about an hour I had 3 people call and ask if I could work them in next weekend, and one is a paint correction. I'm not turning down $1,200 ish dollars

Ahh... I was thinking you meant like kids age.
My daughter is a free spirit and has finally decided enough of the so-called "trying to do it my own" phase in her life. Not that she can't but ...she's smart and determined but at what cost. I basically said, I have room, so come back and start fresh.
