OSU gameplan...

In a way, I think this could play into Iowa hands. I just do not see Pryor and OSU being as precise in executing a NW-style attack as Persa and NW. That could mean more incompletions, which will get them off the field quicker than the long grinding running oriented drives that would wear out our d-line.

Now, if Pryor is hot,and they throw the ball successfully a lot, it is trouble,no doubt. Iowa needs some tipped passes, and interceptions.

If we dont' clean up the mistakes on offense and sloppy play, there's no chance against OSU.

Having near a week now to relax from last game, it's more obvious that the failure of the offense falls on Stanzi and the OL. We've had loads of pre snap penalties, and holding calls. And Stanzi has not be sharp at all with any throws over 10-15 yards.

This offense really was very efficient until IN, and for some reason that game, and NU has continued that trend of sloppy play. Yes been some odd play calls, but also been some bad audibles, brain farts, and poor decision making.

All in all, the defense has done it's job. Even though it's on the defense for not getting a stop when they truly needed it, they still held those offenses to under the scoring average for the opposition.

I'm sure OSU is going to come out with quick passes, spread the field, keep TP from holding on to the ball too long, and take what Iowa gives.

They will score some points, but if Iowa can keep them to two scores, it's up to the offense to do their job.

short passes coming underneath our soft zone. They will pick on the LB's in coverage.... just my guess.
If that's the case, I'd be interested to see how successful they can be. They haven't practiced it, the timing won't be there, and that's not how their offense is built.

IF OSU is gameplanning to play against the same Iowa team that showed up the last two weeks, what is the point? If that Iowa team shows up, OSU can do anything and they will win. I am betting (hoping) that the team that shows up on Sat doesn't resemble the last two weeks much at all.

.

There were 2 holds on the first drives that were the turning point in the first half against NW. Iowa has the ball, rips off a big play by Arob, and it gets called back and Iowa punts as opposed to going down the field and getting points which they seemed poised to do. Then NW has the ball and gets away with tackling the defender, Persa completes a big play and NW goes on to score a TD on their drive, when that hold would have been the drive killer like it was for Iowa. If those 2 calls are consistent, I think the first half and the game turn out differently, but I guess we will never know.

14 point swing right there,possibly...ballgame.
Adrian's uni was being stretched from his body by the guy holding him, right in front of the ref...unbelievable.

A couple quotes from the article...

"The gameplan we have in this week, it's one of my favorites since I've been here," Pryor said. As good as the Rose Bowl, when Pryor completed 23 of 37 passes in an MVP performance against Oregon? "Yeah. ... more," Pryor said. "It's my favorite one since I've been here, I'll tell you that."

Here's an educated guess: Pryor would not be that excited if the gameplan called for a repeat of what the Buckeyes did against Penn State last week, which was finish with 43 runs and 13 passes. When I asked Pryor several weeks ago what he'd do if he called all the plays for the Buckeyes, he said, "I'd probably put some small guys in the backfield ... and get in the shotgun and spread the field and make the defense make some plays ... and run some zone reads and stuff like that."
Pryor wants to throw more, though, as quarterbacks always do. Coming off what he called a "terrible" game against Penn State, when he completed 8 of 13 passes, he was enthusiastic for a reason on Wednesday. If that's the plan, he needs to make it work.
...plus a tweet from a Buckeye writer/media guy(?)

Tressel said the Buckeyes have to let loose a little bit this week to win at Iowa
Man I hope we're ready for battle Saturday.

They'll spread the field, Pryor will exploit our zone coverage just like Persa did and run for 10-15 yds a play. They'll get Iowa to run their 3-4 or 3-3-5(whatever it is) and if Pryor doesn't see anything down-field, he's gonna take off.

I don't think OSU plans on using the NW game plan per se, just going at a quicker tempo. I believe Pryor has been wanting to run more, that's why I believe he likes it. Pryor did throw short in the Rose Bowl vs. Oregon and was very successful and looked good doing it. Can't wait for Saturday.....

Iowa will look at the OSU/Wisconsin tape and try and do some of the same things Wisconsin did.

It'd also be nice if Iowa came out/won the toss/took the ball/and punched in a TD on the first drive. It would get Kinnick rocking and put OSU in an early hole.

Stanzi should do this, minus the pick 6 of course.

I'm sure they will, I just don't think the have the OL/RB personnel to pull it off. Robinson is good but there isn't much behind him at RB, I think the Iowa OL is good but the size of UW's OL is what seemed to cause OSU a problem, those guys just swallowed up or DL. OSU has started slow on the road this year, Iowa scoring 1st to start the game would be like deja vu from the UW game.

Here's the most impressive concept of this thread ... gameplanning for Iowa

Iowa is gameplanning to play like Iowa. OSU is gameplanning (and tweaking and adjusting and modifying) to beat Iowa.

See the difference?

I cut-n-paste my post from the "prediction thread" (because it's basically a prophecy)...

Iowa will play much more competitively against OSU for 3 reasons:
1) Kinnick;
2) senior day;
3) Ohio State will only do what they need to stay in control of the game during the 1st half.

That's Tressel ball. If Iowa gets too close for comfort, he will immediately tweak things and turn Pryor loose in an IU and NW manner -- short passes on 1st / 2nd and let him move the chains with his legs on 3rd.

OSU will dictate this game and win it in the 4th quarter. The final score will be closer than the game really was: 33 - 24.

This is sort of how I see it. I cannot imagine them abandoning the things they do well...and the tempo thing is not horrible, if your offense is moving the ball. If Iowa was just moving the ball and punting after a few first downs on Saturday with that lead, it would have made a big difference for the defense.

Pryor is not an accurate QB...not lethally accurate.

I just don't see Everyone Kills being able to pick us apart with the pass quite like N'western did. His running ability, on the other hand, really scares me.

Iowa vs Ohio State (Nov 14, 2009)

Here's last years game stats...We had better linebackers and that made a difference, but we handled pryor in the run and pass by the looks of it. Plus Stanzi didn't play, so he'll be ready to go...It'll be a good game. OSU wil have everything backfire...i think we come out and kick ***...

I hope the Hawks kick the living crap out of OSU. This team better play with a purpose. If they come out like the past two weeks, I will be shocked. (Well, maybe not) BUT, this game means SO MUCH for Iowa in regards to ending the season right, bowl game, and looking towards next year. I can't see these seniors not giving all they have in this game. Get LOUD AND PROUD this saturday Hawk fans!
