Orlando Brown, Jr visiting this weekend and other nuggets

6-9, 376-pound:eek:
That is an unreal size if correct!!Serious question though. Is it possible for an OL to be too big - making it difficult for QB to see over and/or around?

well when they are blocking they dont stand straight up and lose probably 6 in in their stance so that puts him at 6'3 and qbs tend to stand more upright in their drop and bounce and rudock is like 6'4 and the texas qb is taller i think so...i think it would be ok. plus i would guess the kid is a left tackle meaning he is on the backside and in the pocket shouldnt be in the line of sight for pass patterns.

didn't hurt orlando pace (osu). i remember him playing at iowa , and him leading a RB down the field for a TD. even tho he was the biggest on the field, i'd guess he was one of the more athletic as well. unreal speed for his size.

Great read on OBj from Howe:

Brown Jr., one of the nation's top offensive line recruits, grew up hearing about Ferentz.

"It's something we talked about since I was real young," Brown Jr. said. "Kirk Ferentz was his (dad's) favorite coach and easily one of his favorite people. He helped him in all kinds of ways, from getting in shape to getting right technique wise and learning how to control his anger and channel it into football."

Brown Jr. said he's open to all of the schools recruiting him. Iowa is firmly in that mix.

"My dad always would tell me that it's my decision," Brown Jr. said. "He just told me that Iowa is a great college and Kirk Ferentz is a great coach. He's a true coach that cares. Kirk Ferentz helped him become a professional from being a I-AA player.

Amazing that they even got him on campus. That kid is so big most DE's will probably be terrified he might get hungry during a game and eat them.

For those that didn't read the article, I just thought it was interesting that his dad was the NFL lineman who got hit in the eye with a penalty flag and then pushed the ref. Not implying anything here, just interesting trivia...

Brown Sr. became a national name after pushing to the ground an official, who inadvertently had hit the offensive lineman in the eye with a ball-bearing weighted penalty flag. He missed three seasons with the eye injury and later sued the NFL.

This much-publicized event often overshadowed the talent Brown Sr. brought to the field. At 6-foot-7, 360-pounds, he was so athletic that he started a game in 2003 at offensive and defensive tackle. His offspring has shown potential to also be a special player.

It was a freak accident that unfortunately ended his career. It is crazy that a flag can do that much damage to someone who has a facemask.

Didn't he end up winning a big lawsuit in the end?

With what he has said about the relationship with KF and his deceased dad it will be hard for other schools to say negative things about KF and Iowa. They can say stuff like, you can win a NC here and not at Iowa but if they say negative things about KF the kid could take it as a insult to his dad.

This kid is a potential consensus 5*. Getting his commitment over the likes of Bama, Auburn, Florida, and the other usual suspects would be monumental achievement by our coaches. I say however, chances are more likely Iowa will get hit by an 8.2 magnitude earthquake than him signing with Iowa.
Hey man I would be careful about saying that on this recruit. His dad told him KF is a great coach and got me to the probowl and he thinks KF can get him to be a 1st round draft pick, when the truth is, if he comes to iowa he will be Thee Number one draft pick.

I'd think any offensive line recruits, including 5 stars, whose fathers played for Ferentz would strongly consider attending Iowa. It's the one type of situation in which Iowa may actually have an advantage over every other school in the country.

So, does Doyle create a 6'10", 425 pound monster out of this kid. My guess he would end up around 350, but leaner and healthier. I gotta think 375 is heavy.
