Oregon? Wow...

Oregon had not terminated a coach since after the 1976 season. I think their stability had a lot to due with their gradual ascension (probably not as much as Nike money, though); it will interesting to see where things go from here.

I think it's crazy. Schools are going to have down years. Now Texas at least gave Strong a chance and a handful of years to try and rebuild the dumpster fire there but he couldn't get it off the ground. Helfich just had a few really good seasons and now regressed for one year. Now by bringing in a new coach they will probably prolong being down longer than if they'd have kept him. Unless you have a roster of absolute studs it's hard for a coach to make a 5 game or more difference in the win column it just is...

If they hire Scott Frost husker fans will melt down as they have hopes of him coming in if/when Riley is eventually gone. Funny thing is they treated Frost like crap when he played there

There's no reason NikeU shouldn't be top 10 nearly every year.

They apparently don't think so either. We'll see but I think they had their run at elite. They'll be good due to facilities and money, but I don't think they get into top 10 on a regular basis any more. USC might be waking up, and Washington looks to be very good for a while.

PAC12 is looking like it could start being a pretty tough go top to bottom.

Oregon started thinking the same thing Nebby thinks....we'll see.

But they never were until Chip Kelly. ESPN has a nice article discussing how Oregon's advantages may not mean as much as they used to, and how it may be a tough climb back to the Chip Kelly peak:

Bingo. People are blinded by the Nike money, crazy facilities, and 9 million sweet uni combinations, but it was scheme, talent, and having a few back to back to back Heisman level QB's line up the right way. Chip got out and the peak, and he knew it.

They'll be good, or should be, but I don't think they'll be perennial top 10-15, maybe top 25.

What if they offer Saban $15 mill a year?

What if Saban coached at Michigan State?
MSU - '95-'99 =
6–5–1,
6–6,
7–5,
6-6,
10-2

He'd never make it to that 10-2 season.

Saban is a great coach, HOF coach, so don't get me wrong. Just don't believe he could to the same thing at Oregon that he did at Alabama.
