Oregon guilty of 'major' violations. NCAA considering standing in corner or time out

Documents reveal Oregon football committed 'major' violations - latimes.com

The NCAA’s on-going investigation into the Oregon football program appears to be crawling toward conclusion. It may still be months before a final verdict is rendered, but documents released Monday reveal the NCAA and the school concluded “majorâ€￾ violations were committed.
The parties do not agree on the severity of the violations, which will necessitate Oregon appearing before the Committee on Infractions sometime this spring or summer.
Oregon has proposed two years probation with a reduction of one scholarship each of the next three seasons.
The case centers on Oregon’s alleged improper alliance with a scouting service operated by Texas-based Willie Lyles. The school paid Lyles $25,000 for recruiting services, from 2008 to 2011.
A key factor in Oregon’s favor is the school is not being charged with “lack of institutional controlâ€￾ or unethical conduct. The school has been charged with the less severe "failure to monitor."

No big surprise here. Maybe not even the Nike money might have been enough to get oregon to a perennial top 10 team. Seems they needed improper recruiting

I would rather the hawks never do any major violations.

Dude, totally called this. They have been getting lots of good players, lots, recently. I suspected some shady business

Gee. I didn't see this coming. :)

It's load of horse **** they are not getting hit with "lack of institutional control" though. Any program that goes from "Joe Average" to perennial bad *** in about 4 years with "disenfranchised" african american youths coming as far as Texas to come play football, should be sounding off alarms with the NCAA.

^This. They went from Oregon who to national title contenders multiple years in a row in a very short time. They have been signing massive talent. Somebody getting paid to get these kids to Oregon, Oregon I tell you, Oregon.

Yet another coach jumps to the NFL before his team is blistered with sanctions he caused, Pete Carrol must be so proud of him.

I lived in Oregon in the early 90s. Talk about a school buying its way to the top. You could barely give tickets away to a Ducks game. It was sort of like going to watch a tennis match. Usually where there is smoke there is fire.

I just assumed Nike payed them to play there. And all the Nike gear they wanted for life.

didn't we see this coming when an assistant coach got busted when a player got caught with a car a few years ago? the car was linked to a booster or something like that.

You'd think this was a slam dunk...but look what Auburn got away with. Even Auburn was certain Cam Newton would be ineligible for the SEC Championship game.

You mean like us losing Chris French 2 years ago to the Quack Attack. I think it's that our program is in freefall and our recruiting is way tooooo conservative.

uh-oh. Oregon gets in trouble and Idaho will get the hammer. Go NCAA. :)

Let's face it, Nike-12/Pac-12, $EC, ACC, et. al., will ALWAYS get less-than-deserved penalties. They aren't "bigger" than the NCAA, and with all the conference-jumping, aren't going to become thus.

The lesser/non-BCS schools like Boise State (although that obviously changes if/when they re-affiliate), Mountain West, MAC, etc., will ALWAYS get maximum allowed because they can't stand up to the NCAA.

b!G are the exception. NCAA will ALWAYS hammer to the extreme, whether or not violation(s) creates a competitive advantage (see PSU). The B1G COULD conceivably surpass NCAA clout, or COULD "secede" and "survive". NCAA doesn't like that. Not at all.
