Open Practice at Kinnick today?

First, not all RBs that left IA are knee issues. Now that I got that out of the way, I think there needs to be a look at the strength & cond. for this unit...I do. I am guessing the turf is similar to other places around the country. We are wearing similar cleats, etc. I know Doyle is the best in the universe and should not be questioned on anything, but that is the only variable I can think of. There is not a curse but there has to be a reason.

Given RBs have more lateral movement than other positions and field turf provides different response than grass, I wonder if the strength conditioning for that position needs to be adjusted.

Summer before 2009 season, just now noticed?

No, just correlating that to the RB injuries. I wonder if that has something to do with it. Not properly conditioned with their lateral movements. Different than movement on grass fields. How many injuries to RBs since field turf?

Just hope we have 1-2 healthy rb's by the start of the Big 10 season......lack of depth and experience is going to devastate the Hawks at this position.

Feel very bad for Hill as he has worked his butt off since injuring his knee in the playoffs against Bettendorf.

Must keep Brad Rogers healthy this year!!

Well Coker and Wegher never had serious injuries. Robinson never had any injuries that could be attributed to the playing surface, nor did McCall.

There is a lot more at play here than the Field Turf. FWIW, the type of artificial surface that Kinnick has is known to produce fewer knee injuries than natural grass.

Am I reading these posts wrong, or has D shown improvement against the 1st team O line? I don't care about schemes, but was O line still blowing out D Line?

Also, too many mistakes? Putting the ball on the ground, bad snaps etc?

The offense definitely didn't do too much in the running game, although we're running frosh backs. Morehouse said Davis looked the best he's seen him yet and it sounded like the LB's were providing some help especially Marcus Collins and Kirksey.

Definitely too many false starts today though. They made it very noisy.

D looked very good overall today. Carl Davis played like a man possessed. Little to nothing in the ground game for any group today against either the 1, 2, or 3 D. I tend to look at that as much as a negative as a positive, however.

The O was certainly hurt by the absence of Keenan Davis and Martin-Manley. I don't think Van Sloten played at all either. Nolan MacMillan was in quite a bit with a BIG A$$ cast on his hand. It would have made Mike Klinkenborg jealous.

Lots of offensive penalties. Sokol threw a really bad INT. None of the QBs looked to be in very good synche with the WRs, even Vandy, but his top 2 targets weren't there either. There is a serious lack of quality depth at WR.

I thought Rudock looked pretty good today. Also Garmon looked the best out of the rb but im not sure hes ready for more then 10 carries/game. Malloy looked pretty tentative.

He had the nice TD to Duzey but other than that I wasn't overly impressed.

But like I said, Vandy didn't have a very good day either.

Golfer, Law and Donatello still even in the SS battle.

Tevaun Smith showed serious impressive speed. Somewhat raw, but as I said earlier, wouldn't surprise me to see him get a good look in September before we start B1G play.

Today's impressios:
Morris in uni but didn't play. Lowery and Hyde were amazing. Nico brought the wood several times, but he also got beat over the top several times. Marcus Collins, Quentin Alson, Travis Perry, played a lot of LB. Alvis improved from last week, but still has distance to go in getting back to 100%. Carl Davis played like the real deal today. Sokol had his worst outing of spring game, kids day, and today. Very bad. Rudick looked much better today. JVB barely played after initial two series. Badly overthrew an oipen receiver, but otherwise decent. Malloy had some quick starts out of the stance compared to Hill & Garmon. Of course, Hill's injury was/is deflating. Feel terrrible for the kid/team/staff. TE's looked solid and deep as receivers and blockers. James Ferentz & Blythe looked like beasts/maulers. Lots of depth was gaining experience today, which was good. Loud music plus piped in crowd noise was necessary. Very good crowd for 2nd staright weekend.
