I thought this was an interesting question, so I looked it up.Has the lower seed next to Iowa EVER won an ncaa game? It's chalk all the way in our bracket.
But at least the Hawks pulled one today..
The last time Iowa played a non-chalk opponent in the NCAA tournament was in 1987, when #2 seed Iowa played #6 Oklahoma (who beat #3 Pitt in the previous game) in the regional semifinal - one game before the meltdown against UNLV.
The year before, #11 seed Iowa could have played #14 Arkansas Little Rock in the second round had they won, but they lost to #6 NC State in 2OT in the first round.
Crazy.
