Yes, he will be a RS Jr next year, so he will play in the '20 and '21 seasons.

Doesn’t matter if he played or not. Once you burn your redshirt the clock doesn’t stop.
Thanks for the answer and he has his work cut out for him bcuz ISM, BSmith, and Tracy are all very good receivers. Ragaini is also good. If Petras or the next QB is overall more accurate by just 5% completion percentage and they have time to throw the passing game could be pretty potent.
And Nate's percentage was bailed out/helped out a lot of times by Fant and TJ and others making some great catches on ball's slighly behind them or low.
It is funny sometimes what fans expect as last week on the second drive against Illinois I think it was Weiting breaking across the face of a defender and open at the endzone but Nate was low and behind him with a pretty fast pass. People in the stands thought that should have been an easy catch but I voiced my opinion that that is a very hard ball to catch, espcially for a lightly targeted TE. Nate has been a very good QB with just some ill timed accuracy issues but he has steadily improved.

My gut feeling says he leaves Iowa after this year. All our receivers are back next year.

I think he'd be much better off playing next year for Iowa and then grad transferring. If he transfers again he'll have to sit out a full year and burn eligibility.
Regardless, theres not much playing time coming open next year if he isn't better than ISM, Tracy, Smith and Nico.

I think Martin will work himself into the line-up next year. Imagine lining up 5 WR set with Smith, Smith-Marsette, Ragaini, Tracy, and Martin? We have a chance to have the top receiving corps in the B1G next year. With all those guys lined up, just think what a pass to Goodson outta the backfield would accomplish! We also have Beyer and LaPorta returning with Miamen, Lachey and Yelverton in support. So many options to chose from. Maybe Petras or Mansell can give us a more explosive attack. The RB room will also be stocked and experienced. If our O-line can improve, watch out! Oh yeah, Duncan returns as our fail/safe option.

With all those guys lined up, a pass to Goodson out of the backfield would likely lead to a penalty for too many men on the field

What I don’t understand is why everyone is making such a big deal about our fifth best (maybe even farther down) receiver? You people have seen 5 catches for 28 yards and declaring him wasted talent when in all likelihood he’s just not very good. Why is the fact that he’s a recruiting miss so hard to swallow when misses happen ALL the time.

He (unwittingly) fucked up his football career going to Michigan and getting lost in the crowd, and now he’s lost in the crowd here. It shouldn’t be a surprise. If he decides to stay in IC he’s going to sit for another year, and there’s no way he bursts into the scene as a senior with zero relevant game experience. If he was good, he’d be playing ball right now.

I’m not one of these guys that consistently worries about Martin, as you said he’s at best our 5th option at this point.
With that said I’m not nearly as doom and gloom on his talent as you might be. He hasn’t been in the system as long as the others and he did have some injuries. He didn’t prove enough in practice to play much this year.
I would not be surprised to see him work his way into the rotation next year. I think he’s a little more of a twitchy athlete than Ragaini. He can still do some nice things at Iowa, but yes there is definitely a certain portion of this fan base who just can’t wrap there heads around the fact that he just might not be as good as they built him up to be. It’s annoying but not surprising really.
I cringe every time this subject becomes a new post (which seems like weekly). But I agree with you Nile. There is a reason a lot of schools wanted him coming out of high school. He performed well, not only in HS but in summer camps. He has some talent.
Fans are so anxious for the next great thing and sometimes it takes a while. With a full year in the system and spring practice I think he finds a place. It might not be to some folks expectations but you never know how it's going to play out. Injuries happen. Motivated players work their way up the depth chart. I say give this kid time. If it doesn't work out, that will be a good thing for a lot of reasons because it will mean we will have some very good results on the field from the people ahead of him.
Martin is still an unknown commodity. ISM and Smith were going to start this year no matter what and rightly so. Martin, then, was competing with Ragaini and Tracy for PT. Respectively they've been in the program for 18 and 12 months longer than Martin. I would argue that Tracy outperformed expectations this season.
Our outside receivers are cemented again for next season barring off-season injury, so the competition shapes up the same way. For an experienced college player a full year with a program should be enough to erase any knowledge gap, so we'll know after the summer if he has the skills to compete.
