Oliver Martin v Michigan

I trust the coaches. You should too.

The were right about Fant, by the way. HORRIBLE blocker. Just watch the Bronco games. He was a specialist

Is the KF offense that complicated? Doesn't seem to be.

passing route trees and routes are down to parts of a second. Not every receiver is primary and coming open at the same time. Maybe the receiver takes three strides and then cuts off the route for a 5 yard pass and hope to break the tackle. Those 20-30 yard routes take 2-3 seconds.

I think sometimes when a pass is overthrown or is off the QB gets all the blame but if a receiver flattens out his route across the field too much compared to what the QB is expecting then to stay on a more vertical route you get an overthrow. I think we see this with iowa especially since many of the receivers are not wide open and the QB gives just a little extra anyway

Actually the passing game requires technical routs and knowing exactly what those are.
I think that would be true of all passing attacks, I just don't see complicated offensive schemes, safe, yes, blocking, yes, but not a burdensome learning curve.

Agree...

Iowa has seldom appeared to me to be a well-oiled, in rhythm, passing game, mostly rush first, play it safe on the passes...better to be incomplete than risk a catch that can be intercepted. Punt... Repeat. WRs who play block and don't turn it over.

The reads definitely are, as is the blocking scheme. See Urban Meyer's analysis earlier this year. One reason Iowa is doing so well this year is that the receivers and the QB are making the same correct reads nearly every play. Iowa's plays look simple, but there's a ton of detail that goes into every snap. That detail is difficult to master and hard to learn. It's one reason why I wish Iowa would switch to a power o scheme and work more slants and TE/slot waggles under deep hooks/posts/go routes. The reads are simplified, and the passes come out quicker and the underneath stuff is higher percentage. Someone mentioned the R4 offense, and that's what I'm talking about. Iowa is more similar to NE or Manning's Colts. You have to have speedy and smart guys to pull it off.

There is a lot of reading to it. We are talking about a coach who under utilized Fant. My guessing is reading routes is why.

He may have been a bad blocker, but they could have used him 50 others ways.

That's the spread mentality. If you have a 7 foot tall guy that runs a 4.4, you get him in space against 6 foot tall corners. It doesn't matter that he has the body type of a TE. Scratch where it itches.

I hope he plays more regardless of it being Michigan this week. It kinda felt weird that he seemed to have played more the first game then he has since. I get it we have a pretty good group of guys. I just figured they'd be rotating them more. (Although I can't get enough of Brandon Smith)

I'll bet he has a hall pass from Coach Ferentz to get a 15 yarder in the 4th quarter when we are up 56-7 and he taunts Harbaugh after his 4th TD of the day.

I was really hoping you'd of said targets instead of taunts. Now that I'd love to see.

Amen. I screamed this at the TV every Saturday. He was match up nightmare for every d-back in the league. He should have been used as a WR every game.

I know we live in the "I want everything right now" generation, but people need to chill out on Martin and Goodson. It's been 4 games. There are talented, established players ahead of them at their respective positions. In Goodson's case he's already seeing a pretty good amount of playing time for a true freshman RB. I expect his role to continue to increase as he learns the playbook and gains more trust from the coaches. With Martin we have Smith and Smith-Marsette as multi-year starters. Martin isn't playing over them. As far as Tracy and Ragaini do we really have evidence that Martin is better than them at this point?

Cool, live in the now already. Some of you people.....

It’s a message board, this is what we do. I mean, my wife doesn’t want to hear about anything iowa related.
