this is what I do.
New starting lineup:
1. Cartwright 2. Oglesby 3. Gatens 4. Basabe 5. Olaseni

-I tell Cartwright to drive the lane every flapping time he gets the opportunity. Drive and kick to shooters or get to the free throw line.
-I have Oglesby hoisting up 3's anytime he touches the ball, then maybe a shot fake and 1 dribble pull-up every now and then.
-Basabe NEEDS to run the floor, crash boards, want the ball/look for the ball/call for the ball like its the last freakin thing on the planet - get him easy baskets this way. I tell him all he needs to do is bust his behind up and down the court til the first tv timeout, where McCabe comes in.
-I tell Olaseni his only job is to play LOCK-DOWN D, get every stinkin rebound, and make his guy hustle back on defense.

Off the bench I bring Brommer to be an offensive post-presence and try to wear down their big guy. McCabe and White to move off the ball like there's no tomorrow - make their defenders work hard on D. I tell Marble to go one on one if its there, but not force anything, and have May bust his behind to slow down their best player, and look for transition buckets. And lastly, I bring Stokes off the bench for only a couple minutes to do nothing more than play with as much energy as he possibly can.

Fact is, most of our experienced players have not been very good. There really isn't a line up that's going to fix that.

Fran needs to talk to Mr. Davis and have him draw up the same plays he had for ole Kent McCausland and implement those into our game plan for Josh.

Any team that brings Drew Brommer in for his offensive punch is going to lose way more games than it wins.

I think depending on match ups I'd go:

PG: Cartwright
SG: Ogelsby
SF: Gatens
PF: McCabe
C: Brommer

Based on performances up to now, these have been the most consistent players. I know they are more athletic, but trying to get Basabe and May going early is part of what has gotten Iowa behind in the losses. Ogles3 seems to me to be the only natural SG on the team, and May and Gatens always seem like an odd fit together. Once Basabe comes around (please, please let this happen soon) sub him in for Brommer in the starting lineup.

With these starters you can sub in May, White, Marble and Basabe and you've got a pretty nice second unit. I still like the pieces on this squad, it's just they're playing more like individual pieces at the moment than a coherent team. And Iowa clearly isn't talented enough at the moment to do that.

Olaseni is part of the future (hopefully) and Archie isn't. Since this year is obviously about next year, I would rather see younger guys get more PT. It's like the perfect storm--everyone playing poorly simultaneously. I am going to lobby for Stoakes get more PT because of what I saw in the PTL and the fact he is not a head case like 3-4 others right now.

I don't think we should hope for that. I could see Basabe completely shutting down if he doesn't start..

The more I thought about this statement the more the issues at Iowa come to light. Basically your saying that Basabe is entitled to his playing time even though it's clear he isn't producing. The fact that he is starting proves that Fran doesn't have other players right now pushing the starters for there spot on the floor. This attitude will and must change in order for Iowa to get that spark back. I'm confident it will happen under Fran.

Also why are people so quick to toss Gatens into every starting lineup? He can be a nice off the bench player. :) That is what he is.
