Ok, now that we know IA's offense is not really that close...can Iowa's D keep OSU respectable?

PSU and OSU really arent that good. Iowa learns to wrap ip a rb and PSU is a win. ISU isnt that good and they beat the team that beat OSU.

Iowa isnt a bad team. They are coached at times maddeningly.

This game is going to be closer than you all think. Maybe even a w. Which in some ways will be maddening.

Last night was a boring win over a solid but not very great team. It was KF at his core win.

I am thinking just the opposite. You want to make this a typical KF game. Make it as ugly as possible, you want this game played in a phone booth.

If we had a power running game and could grind out first downs, and had a good punting game..i'd agree.

We have no choice to bbdb defense, but if we don't find ways to move the ball... I am concerned. Drops, penalties, and poor punting will not work against OSU. Barrett ain't Croft.

OSU isn't that good? Compared to who? Alabama? Iowa is a below average to bad team that is horribly coached. Minnesota is not a solid team either, sorry. Last night was a game between 2 bad football teams. Minnesota might be the only team that has an offense worse than ours. If Minny would have decided to run the ball more last night instead of throw with a qb that couldn't pass to save his life, then they might have beat us.

Guess we'll find out. OK handled em well at the place ISU handed them an L. ISU is improved but not great. Everyone will jump ip and down when it isnt a blow out or better.

Have pass plays that get the ball out quick. With 2 frosh tackles...and this being the best Dline we'll see all year...NS needs to have the ball out quick...and we will need to catch the ball.

Nothing horizontal. It's gotta be misdirection and vertical.

Anything less than a clean game...ugh.

And punting game will be significant, one way or another.

Iowa has a shot if they change the Offensive/Defensive game plan. If they plan on trying to establish the run it is going to be ugly against the OSU front seven. From what I have seen the OSU defensive backs would be the weaker part of their defense and we need to pick on them. In the past Iowa has had success against OSU using the Tight Ends and they need to continue that. Iowa also needs to run more run/pass options on third down.

They need to roll Stanley out of the pocket and give him the chance to run for the first down, make the short pass, or throw it away if nothing is there. Iowa also hopefully can capitalize on special teams, as a whole team that is the OSU weakest spot. It is surprising that BF coming from the patriots we do not use the short passing game in place of the run game more. The patriots do that a ton and I think we have some personnel that would match well for that type of scheme.

The whole play calling at times is weird because it looks good for a short time then it is like they revert for two quarters. Too many dropped passes to sustain drives and then where is the screen game? The Smith INT was actually a really great play call as it broke tendency but then it took awhile to test them again. It is hard to say who is to blame but these things are obvious and I can't begin to fathom why things are the way they are.

As for the defense Iowa will not be successful running just their base scheme in my opinion. Too many mismatches against our Linebackers whether it be from the backs, receivers, or Barrett. Ferentz has a tendency to perform well with his back against the wall but without some changes it will not be a good experience

Really hope this is the case......and would be happy to see it. Not far-fetched....I still think it likely goes the other way...but not far-fetched either. Just when you think Kirk is down he pulls a rabbit out of his hat.

I agree with Jon in his latest power ratings in that the Big Ten is really not that great this year. Perhaps the ball will bounce in our direction this Saturday and the Buckeyes will be overlooking us. If an unlikely upset were to happen, we need all the breaks going our way in this one.

I sure hope our staff holds nothing back. Not holding my breath.

Since I first saw the schedule in August, I've predicted an Iowa upset. OSU just came off a huge emotional game and is ripe for the picking. That's my heart speaking.

My head says this Iowa offense is just awful and getting worse by the week.

I'm gonna follow my heart. Hawks 17-16. If they get blown out, I'm moving on the basketball.;)
