Word on the street is Gregory is the front runner. Obviously a lot of names have been tossed around but his is one that keeps coming up as the guy to beat.

Really nice actually. Good to learn more from the perspective of the players, staff, even the arena crew. Izzo & Heathcote assitant. Maybe he could be our Basketball Bielema?

By chance, that wouldn't be a fluff piece produced by Dayton University, would it?
Of course it is. But there's still a lot of info in there for people unfamiliar to Brian. Am I biased? Sure. If we can't get Pearl, I want Gregory... that's been my stance. I'll try anything to get the word out. :D

cyclone said. i dont want this guy.

Gregory took over a VERY talented team when he got to Dayton. Oliver Purnell had them loaded and fresh off an NCAA tournament team. Brian took them to the NCAA the first year with Purnell's players and lost in the 1st round. Since?.......

Has only made the NCAA tournament once in 6 years.
Finished 7th or worse in the A10 4 out of those 6 years.
Starts semi hot and fades every single year

Have never been impressed by him when watching Dayton.

Also a lot of people rate Dayton as a top 5 basketball town in the country. I have been to a couple games there and they love their bball. Anyways Gregory can recruit some of the really great talents out of Ohio and he has. Problem is that he doesn't do anything with those great classes. Know imagine him at Iowa where the talent isn't as deep in the state and the conference is better. Just don't see him doing well

How long ago did you want come out for Gregory?

Just curious... I haven't seen you toss any name around other than Pearl until now.

Ferentz is a low key guy....and that works, for Iowa football. I think Linkliter rather patterned himself after Ferentz in a way...down to mimicking Ferentz-speak about not getting the highest rated guys, but transforming them over time into All B10 type players. Basketball ain't football. Iowa needs someone 'like' Gregory -- someone with some observable fire & passion. Alford, despite all his transgressions & douchebaggery - at least had that quality. Now Iowa needs to put it together. Someone with the character of a Ferentz/Lickliter --- but with the passion of someone 'like' Alford. G'luck Barta. I read on another site where Bruce Pearl is all but signed so I'll just go with that. Feels good, man.

Spank....I like this guy and I especially like the Izzo coaching tree. Plus, he's had a few years to cut his teeth being a head coach and has ties to Chicago, which I think is key for the future of Iowa basketball. Most importantly, I think he would represent Iowa well when he walked in the door of potential recruits....he looks the part.

With experience at MSU, he knows what it takes to compete in the Big 10.

I also like how his teams put defensive pressure on the ball....all the time.

I think he'd be a great choice.

Video was pretty impressive and made me start to think he might be the guy we need. However, I went to the Atlantic 10 Conference website and looked up their record for the past several years. They are generally right around .500 in the conference and finish in the middle of the pack. (I think last year was the exception when they finished 2nd to Temple.) Is this really what we are looking for?

I would trust the hire if he were the one. Question is does he fit what Barta described in his pc? I do like coaches like Gottfried, Gillespie, Wojcik, Lavin, Turgeon, Drew, Donahue, Lappas, McCaffrey. I just have to believe Barta has someone with the m.o. he described, as his target. Thus the surprise factor after hearing about all the mid majors/Asst.'s who are currently available.

Tom Davis fans should love this guy.

Last night against Illinois, Dayton used its deep bench to press man-to-man with wholesale substitutions to keep the players fresh. No Flyer played more than 30 minutes, while nine logged at least nine minutes. Six scored eight or more points.
