Ohio State has four freshman transfer from 2015 class

Iowa isn't the only program with basketball transfers evidently. I am sure each transfer has his personal reasons for so doing. This isn't a new phenomenon in men's bball, but it seems the numbers grow each year. I definitely feel that the quality of men's college basketball is going down as a result of one and done and so many transfers.

IIRC that was a highly rated recruiting class. IMO, that is way worse than Iowa losing 2 players that were way down in the depth chart.

That would depend on how quickly OSU's booster club can buy quality replacements....but yeah, that's a devastating blow.

One or two guys transfer, it's because they want more playing time and can get it somewhere else. Four guys transfer, it's probably because they don't like the coach.

Yeah, they lost 3 - 4* kids, that is a huge blow! You won't replace that this late in he recruiting season.

I didn't even know this until D-vogs posted it in the Hutton or Fleming thread(can't remember too lazy to look). It is immediate playing time or I am outta here. As oppose to what PCHawk was getting at in the Fleming thread of sticking it out, developing your craft and contributing as an upperclassmen. More and more guys are choosing option A.

I realize guys get homesick and some may leave because they may not quite fit academically and/or socially. It just seems some kids aren't doing their homework in terms of knowing the style of play that you are getting into......who they have to compete with for playing time.

Now that's a problem haha. See it can always be worse... We don't have it so bad if our 11th and 12th men are leaving as opposed to something like this.. That big guy Giddens I thought was supposed to be quite a stud. I wonder if it was the lack of team success/or his own that is making him want to leave. But yeah the lack of patients kids have with developing themselves is nuts. I'm sure if that group stuck together in a year or two they'd be a team worth wrecking with now they are a what could have been story... I suppose none of them will end up in the BIG... Giddens would sure look good in black and gold dang it.

And you know this how?

I watched OSU recruit one of their starters up close. There was money flying all over the place...

Actually they seemed to be working harder at it than other B1G schools including Iowa.

Motta has a very good core coming back. They will still be a threat to win the B1G next year.

"Were" has to be an operative word here. How do we know that the two that left wouldn't be starters next year? At this point the only known starter for next year is Jok and he may go pro.

It's easy to assume that the new guys coming in will be better than the guys that WERE riding the pine.

It's really a crap shoot but in general the most successful programs year in and year out are getting the top rated players. Once in a while you will see exceptions to this but as a general rule this is true.

I wonder if Fran has any regrets for red-shirting Moss. Would have been nice to have him get a little experience under his belt going into next season, but then again our two senior guards were so spectacular it would have been difficult for Moss to get any playing time.

I once had a conversation with a father of a top 50 player. He pretty much told me what the going rate for a top 10 player was. I'm not saying that ALL top 10 players demand money to sign. But I know of 1 kid in particular that had boosters of prospective schools bidding for his services. That kid ended up at Ohio State. Maybe they did...maybe they didn't. But it was common knowledge that a price tag came with the LOI. Who knows? Maybe OSU has cleaned up their act.

Was that BB under Motta? the kid I watched was a top 20. 17 I think.

If I read the story right they currently have 8 scholarship players for next year. Ask Duke how well that works if one of the key guys gets hurt. If they are a threat to win the conference next year then so is Iowa IMO. I wouldn't trade our roster (with Jok) for theirs...not even sure I would make the trade without Jok.

1 - Uhl, Wagner, Williams, Baer and Ellingson all played ahead of them this year.

2 - Fleming left because of the competition at his position...don't see this from guys that expect to play ahead of the competition.

3 - Guys that think they will start tend to hang around...not sit out 2 years or drop to a lower level of play like Hutton.

I have more but this is enough to address the question you posed.

I've seen a couple of their players play in high school. I wouldn't take a bet on that if I were you.

UNI is a great example of a small roster...and what happened.
