Official Weisman to FB Bandwagon

Loved him as a fill-in starting RB in 2012, but it's just not working anymore.
We no longer need him as a RB in the backfield and the stretch plays just aren't working anymore.
For his senior year, he would be a very solid FB.

Don't see it happening, but I would like to see Canzeri get more carries. He just hits the hole faster, and against the better teams, where those holes only exist for a little bit, you need that burst to squeeze through there. Weisman will knock over a LB or DB when you give him the chance, but he can't move a DE and/or DT and a LB who has closed a hole because it took him a half second longer to get there. The holes in the stretch plays are not always where they are designed, it takes quick feet and reaction to see it and then hit it. Not saying Canzeri is the next 1,500 yard rusher for Iowa, but he offers a better chance on some of those plays. This is not a knock on Weisman, because I love to watch him bowl over a LB or DB (see the Nebraska game as an example) but I've wondered on some of his longer runs where he gets through the LOS untouched, how far Canzeri could have run on the same play.

We have better FB's than Weisman, the FB in our offense is there to block and catch a pass from time to time. Weisman is a better runner than he is a blocker or receiver. I would like to see more 2 back sets so teams have to worry about Weisman up the middle or Canzeri outside. Because if only Weisman is back there you can clog it up and be confident you can chase him down if he goes outside.

If history tells us anything, Mark Weisman will be the starting RB next year. I've been saying it all year but have given up hope that the staff would see that him getting to the edge is like watching a play in slow motion. He is a short yardage back, that's it. Same goes for Bullock, he shouldn't get more than 2 or 3 touches a game. Most people recognize this.

This is pretty spot on. I know that Canzeri has some ball security issues, but the potential upside far outweighs the 3 yards and a cloud of dust result that we typically have when Weisman gets the ball. I think Weisman should still get carries, but in a Jeff Woody type of way, so for short yardage and goal line situations. And QUIT RUNNING THE ******* STRETCH PLAY WITH WEISMAN, GREG DAVIS!!! IT OBVIOUSLY DOESN'T WORK. Sorry, I just had to get that out of my system. Carry on.

No Bullock should get 0 carries a game. He should occasionally be in on 3rd down to pick up a blitz or catch a pass out of the backfield. Maybe we should move him to the slot?

Bullock is a good change of pace back, but he should be third in the pecking order. I sort of prefer Weisman as "starter", with Canzeri getting equal carries and featuring he and Weisman in two-back sets. Bullock in the slot would be ideal.

I hope Daniels can earn a good share of his carries next year.

I think we will see more from Daniels. I think with our current "stable" that we should forget about anyone getting 1000 yards (although Weisman came close, and might have had a better shot if we hadn't abandoned the run and limited him to short yardage situations) and think more in terms of "total" yardage from our RBs. Four backs getting 3200 yards is a lot better than one getting 1600 and the other three getting 200 to 400 each.

I think changing up our backs may be the most effective way we could could help out our QBs and WRs.

Slow rb's don't see the ball on really good teams, look at Weismann avg. vs Canzari yesterday and in several other B10 games.

Hawks should try and upgrade from Canzari as well. not sure if Daniels or some redshirt freshman or recruits will be better, but let's not wait for injury to Weismann to find out.

How to iowa running back.

Step 1. Bullock never.

Step 2 canzeri is primary always.

Step3. Weisman as a change of pace only when needed.

Step 4. ????

Step 5. Profit. And rushing yards.

Wasn't but one game ago Weisman was taking it around the end and running over Husker Defenders on his way to the end zone.

As fans we have such short memories.

Weisman can bring value at the RB position. Coaches just needed to recognize that it wasn't working yesterday and went with Canzeri.

Ideally I would like to see Canzeri lead the team in carries, fill it in with about 10 carries by Weisman and get Daneiles in the mix.

Bullock I think has been kept in the rotation because Ferentz feels he is better on the pass blocking, but I thought Canzeri did a good job yesterday so if he can improve on that and secure the ball it should give Kirk confidence to go with him as our guy.

We see now, how good a 'good' team is. Weismann will look great against most teams that Iowa wii face. To get to the next level, we need a new back. I hope Kf sees it that way.

What makes you think he isn't the best fb? he was starting fb back when they pressed him into rb service. He would be awsome at fb and put pressure on other teams to always need to account for him.

The thing is all 3 could play important roles in a good creative system, but its not gona happen and we all know it.

Next year Mark will be the starting tailback and Iow will run mostly stretch plays, it will work ok against most opponents and it wont on the few occasions we play good teams.

Weisman doesn't fumble so therefore he starts, at least this is Kirk's rationale. It's ridiculous watching LSU's 235lb back run past, over, through and take it to the house. Weisman has the ability to one which is run over. Bullock is still juking defenders on the way to brush his teeth!! I think a mix of Canzeri and Daniels is the best chance to get some big chunks of yards but as stubborn as this staff is I doubt we see any of it next year which is unfortunate. We often have better players waiting in the wings but Kirk plays the loyalty card, the upperclassman card, and the "he doesn't turn the ball over" card, rather than playing the best players. In the minimal carries he got Daniels seems like our best back but who would know. He fumbled twice so Kirk will sit him the mandatory year and a half and give it another go… Frustrating
