!*****Official 'Salvage Some Respectability' Game Thread*****!

That was a world-class quit job Nebraska had the instant they went down 14. Oh well. Good to see Iowa stay on the gas and blow them out. Now win a bowl game.

They changed the rules in 2002 to count bowl stats as official stats. It's really controversial because it stole Ron daynes rushing record from him since his bowl game stats don't count. They decided not to count the stats retroactively to 2002
That’s just stupid. They have stats of all these games and this new invention called the computer that adds numbers too with very little human thought.

NCAA laziness strikes again.

That deep hole wasn't that deep.

Disappointing for Michigan, but not for mortal schools. He went 3 -9, 5 - 7, then 7 -5. Kirk's first three years were 1 -10, 3-9, and 7-5.

Rich had won over 100 games as a head coach when he got to Mich. Kirk had 1 winning season, and had 12 total wins. Plus, Michigan has had more wins in a tougher division. That's not a good example.
What was Michigan’s and Iowa’s records the three years prior to RR and KF?

What was Rich Rod’s record at Michigan in years 4-6 compared to KF’s years 4-6?

Lloyd Carr was 7 - 5, 11 - 2, and 9 - 4 Carr's last year's. Hayden was 9 - 3, 7- 5, and 3 - 8.

Rich only got 3 years... His 7 - 5 year brought out the pitchforks from the donors. Ours gets a bonus.

Kirk went 11 - 2, 10 - 3, and 10 - 2. He's been nowhere near that good since then for more than one year.

I don't know if anybody caught this the first time around and I am too lazy to scroll 41 pages worth of game thread to find it, but with about a minute left in the 3rd quarter we stopped Nebraska and forced a punt. We had some trickery set up on the punt return that we didn't get to utilize but that may or may not show up in the future. As soon as the ball was kicked, MVB starts sliding to his left and starts waving his arms as if to give the "Peter" call to get get away from the ball. At the snap, Josh Jackson, instead of staying in his position as a gunner-jammer on the defense's right, bails in a dead sprint back to where MVB vacated. I'm thinking that if that ball isn't kicked right down the middle (and it is kicked a little to the defense's right, where Jackson is retreating), we were setting up for a misdirection punt return. We appeared to have the makings of a wall set up...essentially MVB brings all the coverage to him with all his motions while Jackson steathily retreats, catching a punt unabated and has the blockers in front of him to score. Here's how the Bears did it several years ago when Hester was a punt returning force:

And here's how we set it up on Friday (note MVB's movement to his left before the ball is kicked, JJ's bail technique before the ball is kicked, and where the ball lands vs. where MVB is):

First of all, the punt is catchable; secondly if MVB is going to give a Peter call he's going to be near the ball because if he's yelling Peter, the return team needs to get away from him.

Sneaky, sneaky...
