Agreed. This is just inexcusable. They have gone away from everything that worked against Ohio State. I certainly wasn't expecting last week's performance, but I thought we would actually score an offensive touchdown at least.
Why it isn't working-
OSU didn't blitz. The scheme does not handle blitzes well, because if you don't recognize it pre snap, you don't have an assigned blocker. That's why Iowa runs to the side with more hats, so a delayed blitz still has blockers.
Relying on Tight ends in passing means you have to wait a split second more as they chip their block, and release, no matter how fast they are. The opponent can simply look for where the tight end is, and bring two guys at that spot and one can get through fast enough that the tight end won't get open.
THE solution is to go power (assigned blocks, assigned holes, pulling gaurds, etc.), screen in the middle, and slant over the re and three step drop. Small completions up field 3 yards. You do this until they stop blitzing over your tight end. Then you run off tackle zone. Then you hit the PA tight end seam now that you have time.
Iowa can do this. I don't think they will. But they can.

Unless it is extremely obvious
When they decide to call it determines the outcome
However, that probably would not make that much of a difference today
If not for the D, this would be much worse, and it is almost unbearable right now

Won’t that be the fourth division title in five or six years? What has the HIGHLY paid IOWA coach done? It kills me that he is paid a higher salary and under performs compared to lower paid coaches. Excellent facilities, drug induced fan base beyond ever demanding excellence and happily excepting mediocrity 8-5 and 7-6 seasons with the fluke weak season schedule showing up to help shore up the coaches image.
I said last week that maybe this was a coming out party for the coaching staff if they could come out and beat Wisconsin. Well they have one half left to prove it.
If our receivers are covered, we are going to have to throw to them anyway. Not layering our routes and not cross crossing routes is why they are covered though.

In this day In age, the bolded makes you a dated coach unless you have Nick Sabin like recruits.
Also, using a homosexual slur against someone for just doing their job (Brian vs the refs) makes one a douche. But that’s a rumor, no proof. His actions against those refs reguardless of what was said is douchey.
