Iowa seems to play more careful on the road than at home under Kirk (and they obviously can be pretty conservative at home).
That may have something to do with the low scoring games on the road.
Probably. But a lot of coaches are like that.
It may have more to do with MSU than Ferentz.
Like Miller, I think MSU is a bully-dirty program. Bullies are more comfortable on their turf; Iowa hits this bully back in the mouth . . . with all their fans around them -- the fight is on.
If Iowa hits back at home; MSU's defense loses some moxy.
MSU was the superior team in all 3 games a Kinnick; but only won one game.
Iowa has had only one superior team to play at Thermopylae. Won two of them including the bad team last season.
Anyway, what I'm getting at is that if Iowa plays smash-mouth football, they're in the game with Sparty.
When the Hawks do it at home, MSU's defense tends to be much less spartan in allowing points.
This isn't the MSU offense of 2011 and 2010. If Iowa's defense can get the O off the field, then Iowa's offense will wear their defense down. Obviously
But the gimmicks Sparty has pulled demonstrate that Iowa's toughness is in their heads and schemes.
